Anybody know if a conversion kit is available to swap out a 727 for a 518 trans in a '71-'74 B body with center console floor shift and a big block engine? By kit I mean everything you would need like, engine adapter for big block, linkage to enable you to keep the slap stik shifter, cross member support, and anything else I might have missed.

Your best bet is to get on Silver Sport Transmissions website, and check their kits. Email them for a quote for everything.

Nope. For what you want you should consider sticking with the 727 and go with a Gear Vendors overdrive.

1 issue would be finding a 727 big block housing that the 46RH rear fits shifting is the same as the 727 slapstick it has a 2 pin plug for overdrive so you could use a switch or a digital speedo with output to turn the overdrive off & on at a preselected speed ,tail shaft would need to be changed to suit the 46RH gearbox support should be available from Holley

Or you could use a 8 HP70 8 speed with a JVX 440 adaptor kit & TCM2600 sound German controller you would need some tunnel work .
Shifter is new Challenger stick shifter

I did the conversion on my 68 coronet. I chose the 518 over gear vendors because the final 4 gear ratio was better than the gear vendors and the 1-3 gear ratios were taller than the gear vendors. There were no kits available when I did mine. I had to cut the bellhousing on the 518 and weld an aftermarket big block housing to it. I also had to beat the hump to get it to fit. Once installed I had to measure and shorten the drive shaft. I never could get the vacuum switches on th 518 to work correctly to shift into overdrive. I ended up adding an electric switch and O/D button to the shifter with a indicator light on the dash. The same linkage from the 727 worked with the 518.

Had thay had the 4L60 conversion back when I did mine, I would have got that.

Ultra bell to convert small block bellhousing to big block:
92457 / Ultra-Bell Big Block Chrysler to TF727 or A518

No all inclusive kits that I know of.
US Car Tool sells a dropped transmission mount for the conversion, but I'm pretty sure the center part of the T-Bar support needs to be cut back and boxed in.
Electronics can be simple switches or pressure activated switches or even an Arduino controlled using Trans gov pressure, MAP, and TPS.

Uhhh....

$700 for this?

How many Ultra Bell adapter housings do you suppose they have to sell to even justify casting/machining costs? Let alone make a profit? I applaud them for even giving us the option!

I have an A518 with the Ultra bell that hopefully someday I'll get it installed into my 72. I got lucky and bought the rebuilt tranny, new converter and new bell housing for 700.00 from a guy out in the bay area.

This. I don’t think folks realize the cost to manufacturer low volume parts. I think we’re getting pretty close to the point where some stuff will no longer be made when current inventory is gone.

Indy wants $1040 for the 440 2D aluminum intake. The market for that intake is pretty low.

So, what is involved machining wise to make that kit conversion?

Job for a mill I would imagine. The unit locates off of the front pump bolts. You may be able to saw off the bulk of it, then finish in the mill. As I remember, the unit is an SFI spec shield too. I believe the company was based in Florida the last time I looked.

Cut it off any way you like. How you install is what matters.
