Could this be the cause of my 2k rpm tick?

All good up to 2000 rpm. 2000 and above it’s making some noise. Std main and rod bearings? I thought that maltese cross means one or the other is undersized?

After the engine has been rebuilt factory markings don't mean much...

It was freshly pulled from a 78 new yorker about 26k miles or something like that and straight to the builder. No boring or cutting on it by the builder except the heads.

Maltese cross in theory is .001 undersize.. I've torn down upward of 50 big block Mopars... Plenty with Maltese crosses, I always have made a point of looking at the markings on bearings to see what was inside....
I've seen exactly one engine with .001 underside bearings... I'd bet the machinist measured your crank journals & decide they were Standard.... He makes more money if he turns the crank....I'm betting it's standard..

Good to know. So it’s nothing for me to worry about?

Just a wild guess but I have seen fuel pumps with broken spring make a slight ticking noise

Guess that ticking is the fuel pump push rod, i had an excessive worn push rod that also could be heard when going through the rpm's.
That was even that worn it actually caused fuel starvation at high loads.

Not sure what else was done on the engine, but could be a lifter as well maybe?
What lifters you got? Did you check the valve train?
Try to source a closer location on the engine of where it is coming from. (front/rear, left/right)

Take a hose, I used a fuel line, stick it in your ear and start searching the engine with the other end.
Works great, found my tick within minutes, could clearly hear it and the exact spot.

.001 or point .010? ..... .001 seems kind of insignificant
