I've been playing with straight pipe systems since the mid 70's and have had some that were surprisingly quiet and some that I figured should be quiet turn out to me nasty loud lol. Most of my straight pipe cars had mild engines with full exhaust systems but without mufflers. One was nearly as quiet without the muffler as it was with it but it had a converter. My bone stock V6 Dakota is probably the most nasty and loudest sounding vehicle yet while my /6 Belvedere sounded like it just had a glasspack on it. I finally took a 4 foot long piece of pipe and put 7 shallow crimps in it similar looking to what the Powerstick mufflers have in them. It made a difference but it's pretty loud but it you drive it normally, it's not too bad at all but if you floor it, then it's pretty nasty still. I don't mean nasty loud....it is loud but it sounds nasty. Hard to describe....not nasty enough to put a muffler on it
