Decisions Decisions

If you have the option, I discovered that I could turn off the screen on the bedroom tv leaving just the audio playing, I set the sleep timer for 30 minutes and put on something I’ve seen a thousand times. It helps keep my mind from running and I usually don’t make it past the half hour.
That's basically what I do. Except if the TV goes off..... I wake up.
Both the gf and I NEED the TV going, to sleep.
However, I'm kinda lucky, it's very seldom that I can't sleep, or get back to sleep.
I can get up around 2am, let the dogs out, drink a coke, and go right back...... as long as the 65" TV ten feet away is on.

My sleep apnea went away when I lost a bunch of weight.
Also, sugar and carbs cause me a lot of inflammation, especially of my sinuses, which makes it hard to breathe, which makes it hard to sleep.

If I drink 1 beer I can feel my sinuses close up.
Sugar/carbs do the same to my sinuses and it's hell.... i can't seem to break it right now though... never felt as good in my life as i did on keto..sugar is soo addictive :(

Plus a lot of times in the evening if you feel hungry, it’s your body telling you you’re tired. Go to bed instead of eating.
The thing is that I don’t feel hungry but just start nibbling and don’t stop. It’s like I can’t stop. I know that’s all on me. I don’t feel tired then. Kim

I have found that three benadryl (or generics) knock my a$$ out.
I usually get about three or four hours at a stretch if I'm lucky. The dogs wake me up when it's potty time (never the gf it seems....)
Benadryl is linked to dementia. Find another way if you care about that.

I feel for you Kim,my son has the same problem. I will check to see what his new drug is this month. I do think he found one that works.

I was on that years ago.

The unfortunate thing about Ambien is your body gets dependent on it to sleep, so you have to slowly wean yourself off it. And then you worry that you might not be able to sleep without it.

Also you need about 8hrs to sleep and have the medicine wear off, otherwise you're groggy if you have anything to do or some emergency comes up.

The side effects are not good.

I really don’t have much problem falling asleep. Ten minutes or so. Just have the problem of staying asleep. Kim
do something physical to make you tired, during the day
maybe exercise or run or weight lift or work on a car :blah:
helps me sleep every time

drugs don't work, for me, neither does dope/pot CBDs at all
makes my mind wonder too much

melatonin works great for my dad
I don't use any

I've been going to bed earlier now, I used to go to bed at like midnight
until I got a new pup

I get like 5 hrs a night 'at best' now, that works for me
I'm just not working as hard physically, to make me as tired,
like before I was retired
&
I now have a now 8 month old puppy (yellow lab Baron)
getting me up at 6:00 am daily, like clock work, to go out & pee,
when I wish I could sleep in, because now, it's my best sleep I get
So;
I go to bed at like 10:00-10:30 pm, I watch some late night oldies TV, in bed
Antenna TV, FETV or METV
until I relax & I feel sleepy, works for me, it's rest at a min.

so this is what my boy/34 is on now Quviviq,he has done so many different sleeping drugs. This has been going on for years.
. Most only work for a couple months. He has done all the different tests and sleep consultants. Did you doctor check for sleep apnea meaning did he ask you to try the sleep mask? Everyone is different, hope you get it figured out.

I've had trouble sleeping long nights since my accident in 2008. 2 weeks in shock trauma - with all the sedatives and narcotics - didn't help any. For a long time, I drank. A LOT. I'm talking years. I wouldn't sleep so much as pass out. Then...heart surgery at 45. Doc said drop the alcohol, and drop caffeine. So I did. Cold turkey. Honestly, that did more for my sleep than anything. Everything has evened out for me - no peaks and valleys, just steady all day.

My main bad habit these days is that I tend to fall asleep in the chair watching TV. Wake around 4am, go to the job, go to bed....and lay awake till the alarm goes off at 0600. And I boredom-eat late at night. The eating I think affects my belly more than my sleep...but I need to break both habits.

But, my time in shock trauma years ago, and the subsequent 5 months in a rehab hospital learning to walk again after my legs were rebuilt, has me wary of ANY chronic medication. They had me on (I forget the actual numbers got this is an example) 30mg a day of narcotics in hospital; they sent me home with a prescription for 5. Detox SUCKS. I dropped it all cold turkey and won't ever go back. I cannot believe people take that **** for fun.

I'd rather find the source of the problem, than mask it with medication.

Are you tired during the day? Does it affect your work or activities? If not...go with it. Not everyone needs eight hours. And if it does affect your day, and you hop yourself up on caffeine to get through...drop it. Power through the day, go home tired, and sleep when your body is ready at night. It will take a week or so but your rhythms will stabilize themselves once the chemicals are out of your system.
