Hershey is next weekend. I got a lot to do. I got the car back yesterday from the paint shop. picked up the kids at school and a significant amount of coolant was dripping from under car. Drove home and with the car running no leak. Turn the car off and Niagara falls. I got under the car and it seems I am leaking from the water pump housing to timing chain cover area on the drives side of the motor. Doesn't seem to be pressure related either so gonna pull the pump tomorrow and try and seal it back up. At this point if I don't have that corrected no Hershey.
In the mean time this afternoon I replaced the alternator and regulator and success, I now have a positive charge at all times.
I put the passenger wheel moldings on as well now that the car has been cut and buffed. Hood has also been corrected and I cut a pool noodle and wrapped it around the lift. I put the windshield washer nozzles and lines in tonight.
I installed the console cover and the shifter knob, but it seems my linkage fix was short lived as it is now back out of adjustment again. I guess I didn't write about that but 3 weeks ago I got it into the shop that did the rebuild on the trans and they found a part that was needing a replacement that wasn't replaced before. Car went directly from there to the paint shop, and was good when I left the trans shop but now not so much... will mess with it myself tomorrow
The paint shop guy who is also a mechanic tried to get it running better. He found the vacuum advance on the distributor was bad so that was replaced and the car was re-timed but it still is running like **** in my opinion. Down on power and rough idle.
Shop also installed the rear glass stainless trim which was a job apparently. The side marker housings are cursed as the shop lost my OEM set. Then they lost the replacement set they purchased then the 2nd replacement set they only bought 2 of instead of 4, so they are gonna overnight a set to arrive Tuesday and be painted that day so I can install them that night before departing for Hershey (assuming I do). Shop got my remote mirror sorted out which was good.
Beside messing with the water pump AGAIN, I need to do an alignment as the car is darty and the steering wheel is not centered and then install the steering wheel pad. I got to mess with the linkage, reconnect the speedo which I forgot to earlier, touch up paint on the inst. panel, check the tire pressure, install all the misc decals under hood and on door jambs and trunk etc. etc. and then detail the whole thing. Install the hub caps, I bought a replacement antenna connection as my radio doesn't quite work right. Oh and haven't got the heater blower motor right either yet ( and it will be cold up there).
I was planning to drive it up, and it runs pretty good at speed, actually much better than it does at idle or under acceleration, but with the leaks and other misc. opportunities I'm definitely pushing my luck so I've made arrangements to trailer it if it comes to that, but I didn't register for trailer parking so I have to make that call Monday.
I did get my repro grill in last week, but I'm not dealing with that until after Hershey.
Hopefully some photos tomorrow. Hopefully I can sort this water pump leak out. I hate trashing at the last minute though.
