Dogs

Although I'm partial to labs, this little girl was dumped on us a few years ago. The middle of July, she was skinny, lost a lot of hair, cover in insect bites, continuously scratching. But she is the sweetest, most affectionate dog I've ever had. A pretty hefty vet bill at first, but it turned out to be money well spent.

My family used to raise labs. They are nice dogs, but not very intelligent.

We've had German Shepherds ever since. They are intelligent and have been bred for their protective instincts. They don't wander off, are great with kids and other animals, they aren't aggressive, and they are easy to train. Best of all, just their appearance is enough to make any miscreants rethink visiting your home without permission.

Ain't no love like puppy love!

During the Civil War, regiments often had mascots. Most common were dogs of course. Soldiers also sometimes brought their dogs with on campaigns to be the company mascot. There are several stories about the horrendous battles fought and the dog staying by his masters side throughout. Often the owner would die and his dog would still refuse to leave his side.

I've had German shepherds for 37 years. When my kids were young, they could crawl over any one of them, without a flinch. And they would be the kid's best protector. Although I love all breeds of dogs in general, mixed & pure, they are my personal favorite.

We had 2 black labs, 1st one was a male and lived 14 yrs , second was a female and lived 11 years. Both were great dogs and were great with kids.
The 1st was a hole digger though and loved my wifes flower beds, He was darn lucky to make 14.
I saved his sorry butt more than once.

I don't disagree with you about Sheppards. I have not had any with small shildren so i can not speak to this. But had 3 labs all were around kids and babies. Labs are good dogs for sure.

A faithful hound dog is a good companion: this is Lily 9mo. Catahoula.

I'm looking at all these photos of dogs and just want to say that God blessed the human race when he put dogs on this earth to be our companions!

I'm a rescue fan because there are so many wonderful dogs out there that need a home. My first was a Yellow Lab/Visla mix...the most unassuming and laid-back dog you'd ever meet. My second is a Yellow Lab/Chow mix that is a fireball and the complete opposite of the first one.

Whatever dog you decide on, it will return your love a thousand times over. Good luck!

Very true. They love to dig. Mine always try to smuggle small sticks and rocks into the house.

DanaLoo...the "Looster." Yellow Lab, but She remains pearl white with light amber tips. She was a gift in 2011 following the Passing of DanaToo in 2010, my Soulmate & Companion of 17 years. Too was an Akita Chow Aussie Queensland mix pound Pup. The reason I have a 'pure bred' now is only because She was placed in my Care. Looster will be Seven on June One......still a Fireball Puppy. She's a Klutz, but Smart.....1000 %
LOVE!

For sure. My sister had a brown lab, Snoopy, his favorite pastime was someone putting an empty metal coffee can over his head so he could bark in it.

Snoopy needed hearing aids after that!!
