DOGS

I have a Neodymium magnet 1" square would lift 75 lbs. If I put it on the side of my tool box the only way to remove it is slide to the edge and pull it off the edge. They are brittle, don't think you can drill holes etc. Mount on a piece of steel with a hole to attach a stick or rope to and put magnet on it. If you get 2 magnets one on your stick a one on the dog it might work long enough to get his collar. Mounting it needs some imagination. Like to know how it works out.

Sam maybe (?)
put a long rope on her like a 20' rope (or however long you deem necessary)
that's what I do to train my bird dogs/mainly labs to come
&/or stay close to me when they are young, so they don't get way out of control
as they age it becomes less an issue,
need to do now while she's young or you'll never break that bad habit
& you can grab that rope or step on it to slow them down
get their attention & a lot easier to grab & catch, than the dog usually
gives you a bigger buffer catch radius
or even stuff like going into ice or the water etc. you have something to grab
& pull them back

anyway, glad it worked out, could have been bad for both of you

Sorry to hear that SAM and Im glad you both are ok. My boy Thor is 3 and still sometimes will not come back to me. A dog park is a no go for us because he does not do well with other dogs. I wish I could do a dog park. How is your dog doing today? You ok?

yes, please be careful out there.......

meanwhile, back at the compound

Sam, I am happy to hear that you got your dog back to safety.. I have often worried about that when I have been hunting near ice.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for your dog is to hire a professional trainer. I have trained all my other dogs, but Thor was tough. He understood what I wanted but he just would not obey. He is a different dog since he went to the trainer. That makes the time we spend together so much better.

I was throwing the ball for Thor this evening. I threw the ball and he returned with a dead pigeon

Napping is good, and yes that is my chair.

My deaf shepherd and I are back in california, so he can get fixed, and recover separated from the others. I would like to take him to a dog park, but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't go well.
I am planning on going to see a friend who owns my mal that we had to give up. I want to see how Magnum interacts. He WILL be on a leash. He MIGHT come when I motion, but if he has a ball, he certainly won't!
Very strange thing, when I offered a ball to this 100% ball-driven dog when we got to Cali, he had ZERO interest. An absolute first!

Asleep on my lap, in two minutes. A stressful day, and car trip.

Lost our little girl a month ago and the house still feels empty. The wife and I have our moments, but it helps to remember all 15 years of good times.

Took my honey and the kids for a jaunt up Hwy 1. Got out at Carpaforo Creek which is at the base of the hill on the way to Ragged Point. They had a great time. Lots of water coming out of the mountains from the rain. The creek had a pretty good current going, dumping right out into the ocean.
