Dream car

Since it's a fantasy, I figure even if it doesn't still exist it's fair game.

I'd have reservations about
mentioning what my dream
car would be on this forum.
Thare's a make from all
that I could classify as my
"dream car". Mopar, AMC,
Ford, hell, even some Chevys
fit the bill. I'm a car nut.
This is a loaded question.

I finally own it. Test drove my Dealer Demonstrator GTX when it was new, and I was 16 years old. Located the car 20 some years ago, finally bought it in 2022. Drove it to Carlisle last week.

If I were to take the history of my car off the table, there would be one other possibility. It would be a 1960 Chrysler 300F, red convertible. But it's a moot point. I got an offer for my GTX last summer which would have made the switch possible, and I turned it down.

I feel like I've been pretty darn fortunate when I think about it. I posted above that a Hemi Daytona 4 speed was a dream car of mine that I never achieved however in 1966 it was a Hemi 500, in 69 it was a Hemi GTX, in 70 it was a 4 speed HemiCuda and in 71 it was a Hemi Charger R/T. Also I built these cars when I could still drive them alot, and I did. I also built 3 Hemi Challenger R/T's but they were swapped. Sometimes it's easy to take for granted owning these rare cars.

moparedtn, You nailed it. I've wanted one since 1968.
Mine would have to be the 383 auto version. Plain Jane as it gets !!
I was holding out cause I was down to 2. You made up my mind.

Actively working on my my dream. GT40 by age 40. Replica of course, aiming to build it myself. Tough call but I think I am going to go MKII. Now I just need to scrape together the $120,000 to build it and we are all set...

The idea of just owning one is interesting to think about. Especially for those with a bunch of cars. My brother and I have always talked about what was our favorite in terms of body style and we decided 68-70 charger #1, 71-72 satellite/roadrunner/GTX #2, 68-69 Coronet/superbee #3.
I really can't picture myself without a 69 Charger. My first thought was wouldn't it be sweet to have hemi or a 4 speed charger r/t? But the fact is I have spent so much time wrenching on my yellow 69 it has a really high value in nostalgia to me. It might need a bunch of work but I pretty much have my dream car are already, I just need to keep working on it.Lol
It has 37 years of hot rodding memories embedded in it, that has more meaning to me then owning a r/t, Charger Daytona or a charger 500. I would love to own one..but the charger I have now is the one I have the memories with, it was born w a 383 and is not a r/t..
...And I don't care, happy I still have it, and it is fun to drive.
So here is my 2nd pick dream car. Hemi and curious yellow...of course :p

For years my bucketlist car was a 1969 Charger 500 Hemi 4 speed Dana-60
hell a 440 4 speed dana-60 would have done
I was always a dollar short or a day late...

When I was a young kid riding my bike still
I'd ride by some older gentleman's place in Concord Ca.
over by my friend Jeff's house, across town, had a perfect spotless
Hemi, 4 speed, dana, it was white & red stripe, black buckets interior...
Sitting in his driveway, old 1 story ranch style house, a moderate house
nice lawn, very well kept place...
I drooled over that car for 15+ years
He'd stop doing what ever & talk with me, show me stuff on the car
start it up for me, he knew I was Jeff's friend...
(Jeff's dad was local CHP Lt.)
One day he didn't live there anymore, some younger couple was living there
& no one knew where he or the car went...

I found one locally up here, I drove by it 150 times
69 Charger 500 white & red stripe (IIRC red interior, not a fan of red int.)
my preferred color is green/black, or green/white anyway...
I would have taken almost any color with a good body, re-doable interior...
#'s matching didn't matter either, but would've like it...

One day I finally stopped & I left a business card on the windshield
where the tattered car cover was literally falling/shredding off it, it was rough
no engine or trans, wrong rear end, body still looked pretty damn good,
interior was ragged out, but all still there...

By chance another one day, I was driving up the hill to see my cousin
now owns my Aunt's place...
I saw a younger guy pushing the Charger into the garage...
1st time I saw anyone anywhere near it or the shop door open...
I pulled up the 'steep *** icy driveway', asked if I could talk to him
& look at the car...
He said 'sure',
I told him "I admired it from afar for 20 years"
IT was his dad's old car,
he lived right up the hill, long *** driveway, behind steel gates, leading up there
it had been sitting outside his shop, a big old tin Butler building 10,000sgft
he did service work on mostly small engines...
Shop was a mess, hoarder like stuff...
I told him I drove by & never knew or saw anyone there or the door open,
for the 20 years I've owned property up here
I drove by it every time I went to my Aunt Joan's place, up-county a few miles
I never stopped or asked to buy the car (Until that day)

The kid said; he was waiting for it & he was going to restore it,
it was never going to leave the family,
but by then, it had no engine or trans
& the rear was replaced with a E-body 8-3/4", too wide
I may have dodged a 'Money pit', but I wanted one...
His dad was still alive back then too, just not very mobile anymore...

We talked for an hour at least, he showed me a stack of cards & notes
people left on the car that his dad had saved, of 100s of people
'wanted to buy the car, to call them'...

I don't know what came of it, it was taken down to the valley,
Oakdale Ca. area IIRC

I've basically, ultimately been priced out of them now...
