Family Tradition

Just a few flakes down here in "tropical" southern Mn, glad it all stayed up north! Would have been nice to go for one last ride, only got couple hundred miles on this year. I'm definitely ready to get the Charger out.
Nice sled by the way.

Thanks Gpuller..Was nice to strech the legs on the Doo a bit and did the same tonight for a bit. Still kind of burnt out on winter though..Can't wait till that first warm spring day to open up all the doors and let all that fresh air in..

LMAOOOOOOOO Im here in Marquette. We got NOTHIN!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY

Just kidding, not really. I'm sick of getting pounded in the remaining weeks of winter/spring. Last year I took off to Key west for the whole month of March and was rewarded with less than 72 degree weather while the UP was enjoying 60's. I drove 2000 miles to gain 12 degrees!!!!! I was pissed. I guess I feel like the weather schleprock as the bad weather seems to follow me where ever i go. This year as I stay in the UP, it is **** here too as the high is supposed to be in the <20s this whole week. WTF

My fault guys, sorry. lol:icon_axe:

So you're the man responsible for this madness??? Man...Cruel!! LOL. In all seriousness i'm pretty sick of old man winter. Bring on the warm weather! Maybe next spring you could hit up the Caribbean or something Daryn...Give us a little break up here.

Got a little bit of a chance to putz around with the car tonight.. Worked on that AMD factory crack by the window corner..

Layed a weld bead and leveled flat with 35 Grit on the die grinder, working from the top flat surface of the quarter.

u1.jpg

Took a carbide bit to the back side to shape a bit..

u2.jpg

Rounded the edge with a 80 Grit mini disc, fine tuned with a scotch disc and then coated with acid etch primer

u3.jpg

Area turned out pretty good..Also finshed off the roof to quarter transition and also were I had to cut down the Quarter where it drops down into the window frame on the C-pillar. (1/4 inch too tall initially-had to cut down and reweld)..

u4.jpg

Besides the little quarter gutter work on the drivers side, Both quarters are 100% welded in place. Will be wrapping that up tomorrow as well as welding down the fill panel braces and trunk latch support.

Lookin good man! I don't know why but I can't access this site from my home PC anymore!

Well prop, I sold a big toy yesterday to free up some cash for my roadrunner. Now I'm going to order a slug of parts before the money is gone for somethin else! I'll start a project thread really soon now. It would help if I could use my PC instead of my phone though! Lol!

Well that sucks!! Silly electronics eh! Gotta be a pain in the *** tooling through the phone on here. Hopefully it pans out for ya Dave.

Great to here you got some lute for your Roadrunner...Spend it..Spend it fast!!!

Wraped up the last little bit on the drivers side quarter. Took care of the factory AMD flaw on that area where she dips down in the trunk gutter..

I know most guys that stop by and take a peak at this thread and the guys that regularly come and visit know how to repair a problem like this, but I figured I'd toss on the repair for those who haven't run into this problem before. This is just they way I go about relief cutting to fit. Obviously different folks, different strokes, but this is what works for me.

The issue is where the quarter steps down into the gutter. Up at the curve it does not step far down enough to mate up with the trunk gutter rail and is also too wide.

Made a relief cut in the first drop........

m1.jpg

After the cut was made, used a long arm body/vise clamp to mate the quarter drop to the trunk gutter properly, then tac welded......

m2.jpg

Welded in the relief cut as well as where the quarter meets up with the deck filler panel in the gutter panel....As you can see the AMD quarter drop is too wide for this area as well

m3.jpg

Made another relief cut in this area as well....

m4.jpg

Used a body hammer/dolly to bend in/shape and then lightly shaped a bit more with a 35 grit mini disc on a die grinder....

m5.jpg

Weld over relief cut area....

m6.jpg

After some grinding down then sanding with 35grit and moving on to 80, this area is rough finished for now... I'll eventually finish off with some 180-220 and possibly 320 thereafter.

m7.jpg

Also finished welding up the fill panel supports as well the trunk deck lid latch support as planned.***Note to self...... Have someone give you a hand next time lining up a latch support. Crawling in and out between the braces in back of rear seat area gets pretty old after the first several times** Another 20 years or 20 pounds, that wouldn't be happening anymore. More work planned tomorrow!!

Beautiful work man!

And I'm back up and running on the home PC

"spend it fast"

Wiser words were never spoken man! You obviously know from experience.

LOL! You bet Dave....I run with it like a monkey with the last banana in the forest..

You decide on what vendor(s) you are gonna use for all you parts yet?

Good to hear the ol' PC is cooperating again. Computer Issues=Instant headache.:banghead:

Thanks Red!

It's nice to have a Plymouth again, instead of the living dead...

Front pans and the outer cowl are all that's left for major metal replacement. After that, tons of grinding/sanding/cleaning then on to body/paint work

For the paint supplies yes, but not the tin.

I'd like your input on that but maybe I'll put a PM together, I've cluttered your awesome build thread with too much jibberish already.

Got your PM Dave! Don't worry about cluttering the thread...Input, questions and ideas on this thread make it more valuable and intresting to everyone, including myself. Anyone can post whatever's on their mind here...:icon_thumleft:

OK, in that case..... what do you think about changing interior color from brown to white?

I think the biggest problems would be the soft parts...

screw it, I talked myself out of it.

Thanks for the PM replies, very helpful.

I will take shop supply inventory today and I think I will make my first excavation effort into the ancient acid trip hippie paint on my 69.

Then there will be no returning, and I will soon discover the extent of my metal damage under that old paint.

I'll be back on the road by..... June 11 2011

How's that sound.?

hey will wether we know the stuff or not,it's good to refresh, cause i for one am keeping tabs on this and filing it away for future use. just told the wife your comment about running with the last banana and she just about fell off the chair laughing.

Wow! June 11th....I'll be rooting for ya man! Brown to White, wouldn't be too tough... I might be a bit ignorant here, but did the dash pad's ever come in white with a white interior? I honestly have no clue. Black wouldn't be too bad. The SEM Vinyl dye works great for that, especially if going to black.

Thanks for sending over the link on body supplies!

Glad to hear it will be hitting your archives Roger...I Know what you mean about stowing away info for future use. I probably have 40-50 threads from all kinds of different stuff saved off FBBO for use down the road. I don't know if I can take any credit for the monkey line..I was actually watching that discovery channel series "Planet Earth" while typing that last night. On the show there was about 20 monkey's chasing down and beating a monkey that had the last piece of fruit in the area...Crazy how things can all be related eh? Glad to hear the wife got a kick out of it.

Playin around with the plasma cutter tonight.Decided to make my own emblems for the roadrunner...LOL Just kiddin around

Yeah I know, get to work! right? Got it buried in the snow bank curing. Wouldn't be right if it wasn't rusty.

Not a whole lot to report......Pretty much wrapped up the clean up around the quarters.
Boring work, but has to happen

t2-2.jpg

Tossed on the fenders just to see how everything is going to line up toward the front.......Holy crap there's a 69' Roadrunner in my garage again!
