What's the status with the paint Will?

As far as the paint Dave; Spent some time filing door edges straight for a couple days last week. Tonight after work i'll be doing some filing and dolly/hammer work on several roof dents. Starting the Stainless polishing tonight as well. I'm shooting for skim coat by either the end of this week or early next. I tossed on a guide coat and blocked to get an overall idea of the bodys condition and it looks like I can get away with only having to skim the quarters, bottom of the doors and the roof. The rest of the car, i'm thinking a 2K high build, block down and see where I sit from there.

One thing is for certain, the PPG Epoxy I sprayed in the engine bay back a month ago is tough as nails. "non sandable" is not the right word for it.. Maybe "two pump chump"...LOL Couple swipes and the paper is headed for the garbage can.

yeah, best off scuffing with a scotch brite pad and going over it with what ever is next be it another primer or color or what ever.

I'm a big fan of polyester surfacing primer as part of my fine tuning with the body.

It's almost like cheating lol!!

LOL! No doubt Dave. Anything to take off a bit of the sock'em block'em elbow grease away is a plus.

Welcome back Will....

Thanks buddy...glad to be back in the saddle.

Well fella's, figured it was time to start snapping photo's and show some sort of progress. No room for me at the body shop tonight, but I did start on the trim work

First time trying out straightening and buffing out trim. One way to learn I guess..Just jump in. Had a few garbage pieces of trim to start off on...good thing!!! I was getting all Gorilla with the trim side of the Martin Hammer..

Here's what I showed up to the races with;

y1-5.jpg

1/2 HP bench buffer, 3 wheels, 3 compounds, Trim/body hammer, precision files, 100, 200, 400 and 1000 grit paper. After getting into it after an hour or two, figured out it really isn't that hard to do, just reeeaallllllllly time consuming.

Kind of a before and after shot;

The dings and dents definitely suck up most of the time, but once you put in the time and effort across the board the stuff looks like chrome.

Only about 1/3 through doing all the trim, but pretty happy with it so far.

Nice to hear that the runner is off to the shop!! Can't wait to see her when she's finished being painted!! Your progress is inspiring and makin' me think about continuing my progress on the satellite. Nice work Will! Have some beers u deserve em'!

Thanks Ben! The old lady says I already drank up all my beer rations for the year. Simple explanation is "It's friggin hot out!!!" No clue what this +90*F garbage is all about. Horrid weather needs to stick south of here where it belongs. I'll take 20*F over this any day of the week.

And besides, a mans got to stay hydrated you know......

Kinda looks like that Coronet top has become a shelf/ workbench lol. I finnally got my doors finished and on the car, fenders are next, chop and cut time on those damn rust! Only four hours of adjusting to get my doors to fit right and my trusty homemade door cradle to hold them for me.

Sure does look great all polished up, looks like new man, Same weather here This humidity were having you can send that south as well! The garden loves it, I think we've been getting August weather all of July, usually our blue berry's get ripe in August and in another week will be all picked and put up for winter. which i hope wont be early.

That's OK, I can loan you some of my rations. Tell her you are borrowing 1 case a week ration from a friend. See if that get you anywhere. LOL
:rolling::rolling::rolling:

LMAO!!!! I knew there had to be some sort of loophole..Great idea Daryn! Mighty swell of ya! :eek:ccasion14:

I'll let you know how this one goes.

Thanks Ron! My garden is the same. It's like walking in a jungle. I wish I could figure out a way to keep the stinking birds out of our blueberries. Little bandits robbed them clean again this year.

LOL..You bet Russ! A 4000lb mobile workbench. Good to hear you got the doors knocked out and only fours hours of adjusting. Better than I did! Hopefully the fenders go smooth for you. You gonna start your own resto thread? I'd be really interested in seeing some pic's of your bird and progress.

Go to the hardware and pick up what i call bird netting it comes in different sizes (sheets) it looks like its just 1/2 in by 1/2 inch squares of netting, Then get some fence posts on for instance 4 plants in a row and put them in at each corner and one in the middle on both sides and cover them appropriately and fasten down, they can look, they cant get at them... I had the same problem a couple years ago and this worked great. i havent bought the new fence posts yet so i draped the netting right over a couple plants and works the same. The blueberry's came on so quick this year we about forgot but ill have them next year... My plants are about 10 years old now and close to 5 1/2 feet tall, im 6-5 and id swear i can look right at the top of the one lol, only have two left but heck thats MORE then enough for us and we give some away. The electric company dug one up, i wasn't home when they put a new pole in, they ran it over, couldn't save it.

Great Idea Ron....I'll pick some of the netting up tomorrow while it's still fresh in my mind. Appreciate it buddy! Does this mean I can retire the M1 Garand for shooting the starlings around my berries? Kind of looks like someone shoved a stick of dynamite in a feather pillow when I manage to hit one...LOL

Maybe I need some of these...

Reminded me of Caddy shack and Bill Murray (sp), Hes the guy ya need to hire, he'll get the job done! lol..

Bravo Zulu!

Great work, Propwash! BZ is an old Navy signal for "Well Done!" You have surely earned it! Your resto thread is great! I'll be checking to see what's going on w/ your car while it's at the paint shop. Looking forward to seeing some pic's w/ paint done!

I'm hoping that I won't need to do surgery w/ the rear brace on my AMD fender like you had to. I fit it up loosely w/o doors on and it looks like it pulled down OK. The tilt on mine looks a little less severe than yours did.

Nice work on the trim & buffing...

Keep up the great work!

Thanks alot Greg! Appreciate it. And back at ya on your 68'. Wish ya the best on that fender. It honestly wasn't that much work to get it right compared to some other issues the car had, but never the less required extra work.

I need to break loose and get to town on the RR. With the crazy long winters up here, it's tough to pull yourself away from enjoying the warm months with friends and family.
Been on the road quite a bit for work as well. Just got back from the oil fields in northwestern North Dakota a few days ago...Along with the grasslands, the buttes and river canyons are beautiful. Gives a whole new meaning to "BFE" out there in the Dakota's
