Driving out to inspect a track. When securing a track, the switches are lined away and locked. A metal blue flag is affixed at each end of the track, stenciled "car department" to indicate to yard switching crews that the track was off limits to car movement. At night, a flashing blue light was (magnetically) stuck onto the flag to ensure it was seen, those are the blue lights riding the hood of this truck.
With a 25,000 gallon capacity, it probably lasts long enough. Just like the fuel, originally coal but now burning oil, 6450 gallons of it. With just an excursion run instead of hauling heavy freight loads up grades, the fuel probably lasts longer than it used to.
