For all of You Train Lovers

They replenish the locos via tank trucks.

The tender has been converted to a diesel tank for the burner, the yellow tender behind it is the water car. And of course a modern loco in case of breakdown.

IMO the modern power ruins the aesthetic.

Were it me in charge I'd have the backup engine following as a second section (or preceding as the first).

Need to keep them coal burners. I recall the smell of it burning in my great uncles blacksmith shop... coal I can smell it a mile away..

With a 25,000 gallon capacity, it probably lasts long enough. :) Just like the fuel, originally coal but now burning oil, 6450 gallons of it. With just an excursion run instead of hauling heavy freight loads up grades, the fuel probably lasts longer than it used to.

"The restored Big Boy 4014 has been converted to burn fuel oil instead of coal (recycled lube oil is used as fuel), and typically consumes about 200 gallons of water and 20 gallons of fuel per mile."

So the range on water is about 125 miles. From what I've heard, they arrange to have local fire departments refill the water.

Hi-rail fishbowl.

That I haven't seen before.

I rode RTA gm fishbowls to elementary school for 4 years.

Note same windows (and likely carbody parts) used on gm aero-train.

Neat stuff! Thanks for sharing! Keep it coming!
