I have averted all those issues by sticking with my 2005 300C. It has all the bells and whistles I will ever need. My financial guy recently asked me if I planned on a new car any time soon. I told him I want to drive the car not have it drive me. He then told me about his new Audi tried to kill him recently. He was attempting a left turn from a 4 lane street to a side street. When there was a break in oncoming traffic, he jumped on the throttle to make his turn when the damn Audi noticed an oncoming car half a block away and slammed on the brakes in the middle of the turn. I said...More evidence I don't need a new car.

Interesting, no such animal in a Ford. That said, I'm on battery #3 in 7.5 years. First two paid for by Ford (I guess I actually paid for the first one), I put another in last Summer with a 5 year FULL replacement warranty.

Depends on the model. Some just have a larger capacity single battery. I believe the WK2 Grand Cherokee is that way.

The ESS systems are actually pretty solid overall, we had very few issues with them when I was in service lanes (CDJR, GM, VW, Subaru, Mazda). There are aftermarket switch modifiers as noted earlier but they can cause issues with vehicle systems, CANbus networks, and PCMs, so tread lightly with them.

That said, it's another reason I'll keep driving my old stuff. My diesel Grand Cherokee doesn't have it (but it does have a huge battery, with a matching price tag)...and I just replaced the battery for the first time. 11 years, 108k miles.

Batteries (ESS or not) are expensive. It's nearly $200 for my motorcycle AGM batteries nowadays. Battery tenders are cheap insurance.

Starters stink, ring gear and or torque convertor really stink! They also use a special battery in the system that’s an AGM type that’s pricey I hear for the Chrysler guys. What a poor idea!

There is a AGM battery in every vehicle with battery inside passenger compartment/trunk. They work well. They actually work the same as a lead acid battery except instead of liquid acid it is Absorbent Glass Mat in between the plates.

They may work well but it’s added weight, cost and another headache that is part of a poorly designed system. All part of the EPAs attack on the auto industry.

My wife's Buick Envision has that econo stop bs. It's a 2018 and I heard the 2017's and the 2019's had a switch to disable it.
I already replaced the battery but it was 7 years old. I don't think it has 2 batteries like some of you have mentioned.

Couple years ago the wife's jeep needed to be in the shop for more than a day so her brother offered to let her use his new Chevy to get to work until hers was fixed. I picked up the car, the first traffic light I get to it shuts off. I was just about to call him and say come and get your car it just died, when it restarted by itself. My first thought was what kind of bs is this??

I already replaced the battery but it was 7 years old. I don't think it has 2 batteries like some of you have mentioned.

when it was bought the start stop system/"eco-mode" BS as some call it
was deactivated, in the computer program/delete
But then;
after my dad put diesel in it & blew it up at like 12k miles
they ended up having to replace both of the batteries, both
the large battery & the small batter under it...

We brought it home
the very next day, it's dead in the next morning, I'm pisse
they charged the top battery, told us about that,
I asked even if they did the second battery too, check it
from sitting for over 6 months
"waiting on the engine, during the UAW strikes"

(now that same Jeep plant is 'almost completely shut down' a bunch of lay offs
or was, maybe the new Stellantis management 'may help save it', not eco-nazis now)

Because both batteries wouldn't hold a charge anymore...

When they, Sonora CDJR Service did the new engine, injector to pan,
from the Jeep Ohio engine plant
(they didn't replace both the batteries, as I requested from sitting outside/over the winter,
in their overflow lot for so long, waiting for the new engine, to finally arrive)
but now/after the install;
& they didn't redo/reflash the program/OBD port, in the computer,
to bypass the start stop system, that it was ordered with Delete, from the factory...
(it's not that tough, but it can wait now too)

Incompetence at the highest service levels...
After waiting for 7-ish months, $14,000+ I didn't want to go back anytime soon
I just delt with it instead...

My elderly dad (88 in a few days, Feb 12th) is clueless how the **** works too,
keeps starting & pushing the button & stopping it (then touching the gas peddle)
when he parks the Jeep

Now we, need to push that stupid button, PITA sort of
every time it's turned off, parked or when getting in or out, to go somewhere
sort of a totally stupid system, waste of $$$ to build (more expenses) & service/maintain it too
but it's not difficult to press the button...

I'd say most that have it don't care for it
but;
it's some useless crap IMHFO
