Great minds think alike. I used that exact trick to keep the converter engaged.
So just finished getting the car back together and filled with oil. It pulls like a train. The dam thing is a beast. All I changed since I had the issues was the torque converter, flexplate and used my buddies VB. Going to drive it for a while and change the fluid. When I do that I'll put my VB in and see if the issue returns but right now I'm a happy guy. I'm putting the problem down to the torque converter for now. The one I got is for a 69 gtx so it has a 2400 stall and seems to be good for my purpose. It will do for now as I'm just running the small block 8.25 rear. Have an 8.75 waiting to go into the car in yhe near future.
Thanks to everyone that chimed in with possible issues I should check for. I'm pretty good when it comes to autos but sometimes it's good to get other peoples input
