Georgia (USA) Road Trip advice

If you get to Texas again see if there's a Rudy's nearby... Not the end all be all BBQ but pretty good for a chain... They are in many cities in Texas & a heck of allot better than WhataBurger... When I'm on the road (Allot) I make finding good food a priority...

I have always wanted to visit California ever since I was a kid. Never made it there farthest west I have ever been was Katy Texas.

I've been there several times and, sorry, was ready to go home after two weeks. Can't imagine living there with the political bullshit and ridiculous high cost of living. The climate is nice but not worth putting up with the rest of the crap. They re-elected that clown, what does that tell you? You couldn't pay me enough to go there now.

There are so many good BBQ places here I can't list them all. Red State is really good, so is Sonny's. For ribs it's tough to beat Texas Roadhouse in Lex. Or mine!

Yep Fulton,Dekalb and Henry counties. North Fulton is not bad. Lets just say avoid anything inside the perimeter. Although its really not bad inside the perimeter during the day. lol

@Dennis H keep us posted on your trip. The wife and I are headed down to the northwest part of Georgia and western SC in a few weeks on a relocation finding trip.
Beautiful area and much like home with mountains and lakes. We have NY plates but these yankees prefer banjos over opera. We gotta get out.
Never had an issue before but usually travelling by motorcycle. Not worried though.

Try to stay downtown in the historic district while in Savannah. It has been several years but I always stayed at the Planters Inn on Abercorn if possible. You will have to pay to park most anywhere you stay downtown, but , its worth it to me. With so much to see and do on Riverstreet and surrounding blocks, you won't need your car till you leave. The folks there learned years ago picking the pockets of tourist pays much more than picking cotton. They are geared up for entertainment, food and site seekers. The old train station downtown is/was the visitors center and is great in helping one find out about the many tours given to see the city. Take some tours.....

Originating in Central Florida. Entire State. 2 weeks. Avoid highways. Also, where to base a 2-3 night Savanah trip with safe/free parking. Old couple. White car. Florida tags. Radar. Don’t have to do the Altamonte Pass or Tehachapi to get home for a change. First time there. Thanks.

One does not utter safe/free parking and Savannah in the same breath. Savannah is a multi-billion dollar tourist attraction. ALL parking is expensive and cramped. There are parking garages downtown. There are several new hotels outside of Savannah International Airport in Pooler, GA. A 20 minute drive to downtown.

Don't jaywalk while walking downtown. Historic district is nice.

The real Texas starts just West of I40.

Dahlonega, GA and surrounding areas in northern Georgia are nice. I stay away from Atlanta... I'm allergic to crowds.

Georgia State Patrol will be on I-95 and I-16. Ten mph over the posted limit is ok usually. The county Sheriff Offices run hot and cold...sometimes tolerant and sometimes not so much.

Plains, Georgia is due south of Atlanta and west of I-75. Peanuts.

Watch out for foxes.

I'm sure you have raccoons as we do, but GA has foxes that run across the road.

Last time I was in GA (Columbus), state and county cops were in the grass medians in dips in the road. Pretty sneaky.

If you're going through Atlanta- go through (straight through, not the bypass) at midnight.

You could keep yourself busy with just Savannah. I’d do a trolley tour for sure. It’s hop on/hop off, so you can just go wherever and get on and off as you want. There is also Tybee island and a lot of military history. The Mighty 8th museum is cool. I live just south of there on St Simons Island, if you have any issues while you are in the area, shoot me a PM.

I grew up in SW Atlanta but my family left in 1975 because it was obvious the times were a changin'....
Damn shame too. It was a true Beaver Cleaver sort of neighborhood to grow up in, but things were going downhill
even then.
Last time I was down there about 10 years ago....that area had pretty much turned into a crack whore ghetto.
My sister and brother still live down that way (rich northern suburbs, Alpharetta and Marietta) but when they took
me to the old neighborhood and showed me the house we grew up in, all I could say was "get me the hell out of
here - NOW".
It was absolutely dangerous in broad daylight for a pigment-challenged person to be in there.

Almost every time I have went to Savannah to work there was always a car with big shiny wheels being searched.

Grew up.in SW Atlanta. I'm in East Atl at work right now.
Commute every day west to east.
Any particular questions re Atl PM me.
With the internet you can find out what you need to know.
Stone Mountain of course.
You will be able to say you saw the carving before they removed it.

If you are going to go through Chattanooga Ruby Falls is interesting.

Savanah I can't really say much about.
But St. Simon's used to be nice.
And historic.
Probably too developed now.
Stay at the Methodist Center if you go.
Best value and you can eat on premises.

Very strong tides on the Georgia coast.
Not for swimming..
Flat beach goes way out at low tide .
Be prepared for the " no see ums."
