How do you do burnouts?

@Splangj
My orange car in post #11 is an old school, low budget '66 383 build, just .030 over with heavy TRW slugs, iron heads and a small mechanical cam. The car only has a fiberglass bumper, the rest is all steel and factory glass still intact. :steering:

Sounds fantastic! I still love hearing about 383s alive and kicking butt!

Agreed! My best friend had a 70 Roadrunner, pistol grip 4 speed, 3.90-4.35 rear gears in the 8¾ he played with different ratios. Circa 1979-83
Regular, wide street radials, and shadetree mods (intake, carb, hydraulic cam, headers) Consistent low 13s on the street, and he embarrassed quite a few would be competitors, especially a dick in a Corvette who replied "That?" when he asked him for a street race and my buddy said he'd run him in his Roadrunner. Beat the Vette 3 out of 3. BAM!

I had fun with my 383 on the streets in the late '70's early '80's.
Direct Connection electronic ignition,
Accel super coil and 8mm wires,
2 Carter AFB 4 bbls,
Gaberial adjustable 40/60, 50/50, 60/40 shocks up front, set up for a fast rise and a slow drop,
Solid steel motor mounts,
Winters Racing built 727 with a solid rod/cable type shifter and some sort of torque converter,
Thrush straight though mufflers,
3-91 rear gears in a 8-3/4'',
Super Stock springs,
Lakewood traction bars with the rubber snubbers right up against the bottom of the car,
L60x15 tries on the rear, F60x15 up front,
11'' drums on all four corners, 3'' shoes up front and 2-1/2'' shoes on the rear,
Bearcat scanner a Cobra CB and a AM 8-Track radio, fire extinguisher,
No AC or PB's and no junk in the trunk.

Any idea what your better 1320 ET/MPH runs were?

Not one bit. I just ran The Circuit in town block to block light to light against anything and anybody. Sometimes the ''race'' went a distance, sometimes it was over before we got though the intersection. The ''race'' was not over till one of the two drivers let off. I never let off. My longest run was from the intersection of E. Market at N/S Sherman St. slightly uphill out to N/S Harrison St. 2,873'. If I remember correctly, it was a running start. It was a green '68 or '69 Charger in the left lane, me in the right lane, I do remember the guy was wearing a Derby hat. We were neck and neck all the way almost out to Harrison St. before we both started to back it down (red light up ahead). At Harrison St. he kept going East and I turned back in to town. Up at York US 30 Dragway (closed in 1979) you raced when it was your turn, on the streets you could get into a ''race'' at every red light. Yeah I know young and dumb or better yet, Invincible.

Late to the converstation, but I start in 1st, go immediately to 2nd and park the tach at about 4500. As soon as the car starts pulling, I know th tires are warm. Usually only a couple seconds. Let out of it and roll forward.
I do have a low-band apply valve body.

They say never start in 1st with a 727.... if you have an fmvb trans as Sylvia Hauser (Miss Mopar who drove the ex Paul Rossi SS Challenger) told me, go on power and 1/2/3rd immediately which I did with my 440 car with 4.88's/14x32's, used to settle on 5k then ease out of it or keep it in if you want to do a PM type roller. All depends on HP/gearing/tyre size which way is best for you, no rev limiters needed, never used one ever.
