Once I order my front end rebuild kit I'll finally hit the $8k mark, but I'm planning on making $300 back on selling the old seat covers and biscuits and two 14" Rallyes.
I have more in my current car then i had in my former car, that i still have and never will catch up, in parts or worth, Fun yes, runnin out of things to sell which brings me back to the current car.... That im keepin! Good thread, great posts but these cars are expensive to build and to keep and every single one worth every single penny... And as they say,,,, well some anyway, if you cant stand the heat... Take yer shirt off and enjoy. ;)
How much so far, not exactly sure, and expect about another 10K to get me finished. Doing the entire job myself saves labor costs so it's just parts costs. It's really taking shape now with the rear quarters well underway, all other structure work is done!
I watch every penny I spend on mine ..I keep a running log of all parts,.. and labor I have to pay for (things I can't do anymore ..kills me) I'm retired so need to be careful but I have two and rotate the stock and have always made a couple bucks on my sales ..have less than 20k in the two so I'll make 5 or 6 k when there both gone ...my rule number one is no cars that need paint ..pass on many nice projects because of that but just to expensive these days
I had a lot of help. My 64 was built for less than $15,000. Made about $6500 with it the two years it's been raced. So that means entry, fuel and maintenance has been covered with some dollars left over to run next year. I'm a happy racer.

One of the very very few things about getting older is I can't remember how much I have spent so in my mind and in my world I have gotten a real steal. :icon_thumright:
I'm at around 12k and have owned it since 88. Would probably be 5 times that if I didn't do everything myself, includes 2k for machine work and assembly of the original short block 440 engine and 1500 for eddy heads with 2.19/1.88 valves. Still need to repaint though, Best money I've ever spent.
Lets assume the body is done,painted. Do a complete mechanical restoration. I mean every component gone over. Restore a car as if you were going to drive it back and forth across the country and wanted to eliminate any possibility of a mechanical failure. See what that cost's
I'm not keeping count on my ragtop... but re-doing the wagon, I've spent 20K on parts over the last 2-3 weeks. Still a bunch to go. I have 4 projects going at the same time, and I really wish I hadn't gotten myself in this deep.
