How to decode a 727 transmission?

Sorry, it was fat finger syndrome, but while I am here I will shed some light on your question. The number after the part number has a digit missing. It should be seven digits long on pre 68 transmissions. It is not a 10,000 day calendar date, which started in 1968. It is a sequential serial number. I have a photo of a 1962 trans that has number 0000007. Sorry again for the red X. I might get one myself, as some people don't agree with me on the pre 68 numbering system.

is this a 727 and the last 7 are just is the production number

look for a white book named chrysler corporation part and casting numbers.it may still be in print. mine is old, but it gets the job done.

Any clues on the 2nd one from 1969?

10,000 date code 2741 shows Jan 28th 1969 for the trans # 2892090

I had no issues using it. To be sure I would then also back track thru all the blue mopar parts books from 62-70 I have in order to verify accuracy of the books numbers when needed,,,,The book was accurate,,,Sorry.

I believe I have a 65 727 but to confirm the number is G2538333 222066? last number not fully stamped butfartherup encasing is a circle calendar with 65 in the middle.

It is a 66 trans. It will not be a cable shift trans.

It is out of my 66 satellite convertible but the car had a 72 340 in it so I wasn't sure it was original as it look like it been apart by the way the gaskets stick out from around tailstock

2124859-1 on the tail case? Just below the number is a 61 - year? This is in my 62 Fury

That number is just the casting number for the tail housing. There should be some stamped numbers just above the oil pan flange on the drivers side. They will be the trans. part number, and the trans. serial number.

Ok, so I got the numbers from the edge above the pan. They are:
2204824 0064199

update- using the Chrysler calendar and the last 4 digits I come up with a date of January 25, 1973 ? This is a push button transmission. Can the newer ones be converted to use the old push button cables and park?

2204824 is the part number, but I don't have a listing for it. A part number that starts with 22 would be around 1962. The other digits are the trans. serial number, and it is a low number that would be built early in the1962 model year. The number started at 0000001 at the beginning of the 1962 model year. Add that up with the 61 casting date and I would say you have a 1962 transmission.
