How to fix spilling gas when filling?

Every time I pump gas into my 66 Satellite the gas eventually spills down the side of the car. I'm trying to figure out how to fix this since I just had the car painted. Living in California we're stuck with these environmental friendly/ user unfriendly gas nozzles at the gas station. You have to push the nozzle against the filler hole to allow the gas to pump.
I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a device to safely pump gas without
spillage due to our old cars fuel filling set up.

Those pumps are horrible!
I think part of the problem is the vent ties back into the fill pipe, not you've plugged the whole mess up with the pump nozzle seal thing.
Yes the Satellite is a tricky thing to fill, worse than the Charger.
Besides putting into a gas can and refilling I don't have a good solution.

Either patronize a station with a "grade" to the pavement and park with the filler on the higher side of the grade. The other option is to bring a couple of 2X4"s stacked and put them under the higher (filler) side tire. Also stand by the hose and listen as refueling, use the slowest setting or fill it with your hand only. I have to do these things on my '04 GTO or the nozzle will shut off every 10 cents or so. Decades ago I learned this from my late friend while we refueled his '70 Dodge Charger, thanks Bob.

I have the same problem with my belvedere , and in Canada we dot have those special cali pumps . and it s hard to fill tank. some stations I go to have lower pressure and it works better but always difficult to get full, if you fid a solution im all ears

You should've seen the side of my van after some dillweed stole some gas one night and didn't clean up his mess. Ruined my paint!! B.S. to your comment!

Use a long skinny funnel to fill your tank. Place the pump nozzle into the funnel and pretend it's part of the nozzle. A two hand operation I imagine.

Add a second vent connection to the tank. This might be involved, depending on the tank. Maybe on the sending unit?

Definitely an issue with the '66 and '67 B Bodies. I have a '67 Belvedere. I have found that if I rotate the dispenser counter clockwise so that the nozzle is pointed toward the back of the car, (in the filler neck), and don't pull the trigger all of the way, that I can prevent the gas from spilling.

Definitely an issue with the '66 and '67 B Bodies. I have a '67 Belvedere. Exactly what I’ve discovered with my 67 GTX. Use first click on nozzle. I try not to fill past 3/4

Aside from filling as slowly as possible (I think the fuel starts a whirlpool inside the tank and then shoots back out), make sure you put a good quality wax on that rear quarter, so if it does spill it doesn't get to bite into the paint.
Also check the seal of your cap - I think mine leaks when the tank is full and I drive around corners too fast.

How about something like this that temporally gets attached while fueling? Maybe like a magnetic sign but a fuel deflector instead.... Doesn't solve the problem but at least it prevents paint damage...

Fyi, I removed a bad gas stain on a freshly painted car with baking soda mixed with water into a paste.
Took it right off with no negative effects.

Gas removes wax, period. If I spill gas on quarter,wash with soap and water rinse and re-wax.

No, I just mixed some up with a little water, wasn't gritty.

Mix a paste and just rub it on gently, no need to scrub. It basically sucks the gas up out of the paint, then rinse it off.

It was an off white, painted less than 2 weeks prior. Had the car for years, never the slightest stain observed afterwards.
