Hyrdgoon's - project angrybird

I used to like the T_knob on some cars ive had but in the Mopars ive had they were all the ball, except my 70 RR and it was the pistol but at that time, i didn't like the pistol either.. funny how things work, my project now will have the ball in it and now im wishing 3 year ago i wouldn't have gave away the shifter that ill need for this one! lol.. I really didn't think i would ever get another one (RR) i would need it so why not help someone, lol, he still sent me 25 bucks to cover the shipping so i guess he was happy... I have the 833 out of a 70 that ill use, but i do think the new one so many are going for is a good deal.. I hope it all works out for you, it would be some extra fun im sure! :)

Hi Goon,

The big thing is how 'comfortable' is the shifter handle you have? If the throw works well with how you sit in the car, I would leave it alone. Also, while a lot of people love the T handles, I would prefer a ball. Of course, that is just personal taste - obviously lots of people love them.

I had a shorter Hurst T handle when I got my Road Runner, but I thought it was too low. When I put the factory pistol grip on the car, it felt much better and more 'natural' shifting the car...

I hear ya on the ball. and it would be correct to the car. I actually find myself a lot of the time holding the shaft vertically under the T Handle because I've never liked the T. As far as tranny goes the ONE thing my car is missing is that extra gear (or 2!!) I can roll at highway speeds and rev ok but if I'm going to travel with traffic on any length of 400 series HWY around here then the 5th gear would make a load of difference. It's a lot of $$ to get into but I really want to have this car in a position where I never look at it and say "I don't want to drive it there because..."

The ball is cheap(er) and would be a nice replacement in the meantime while I figure everything else out so I just may go that route. The shifter isn't bad for my reach right now but the throw is really long... I've read about some 70 boxes having an extra set of holes to shorten throw and I've read of others cutting the fingers.

I found someone else debating the exact same thing as me but they didn't go ahead with it either http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/mopar...uot-shifter-and&highlight=pistol+grip+shifter

Your absolutely right on your gear ratio!!! I guess sometimes i think we all live in a place like i do, to get on "the highway" and do some distant or just plain fun doesn't happen with me to often and now im thinking about it, i cant remember the last time! I think now i will remember, It would be some fun to get on there and then,,, have some fun! I hope i wont remember this if by chance i get caught winding my old play toy up, Man, i used to love winter and now im already thinking of something i cant wait to do when the Robins fly back and the trees are greening up.. ENJOY.. I love these cars and the fun you get just thinking about what were doing, building or trying to get into trouble... without REALLY trying to get into it :)

i dont really have anything to ad....... just want to be part of the thread..... thanks :santa:

The plan right now is Passon A-855 unless I happened upon a T56 for a good deal (but harder to come by here) I'm watching 747's thread in anticipation for total budget he's all in for the T56 swap but considering I'm already a stick car the ease of the Passon and zero mods really makes sense. The part that really sucks right now is our dollar **** the bed so that Passon is going to run me a pretty penny with exchange :(

These guys have some neat stuff http://www.duncan-motor-sports.com/prod02.htm

Glad to see your watching, I can tell you that the total cost will be around $3,000 (in the car and done). This is using a salvage yard Viper T56 tranny for $1,500 but the real determining factor won't be cost for most it will be the amount of cutting and fabbing to make it fit. Unfortanetly I'm still waiting for my money from the TKO sale so I can get things coming (very soon).

That' about what I ball parked Devin, I know the bell housing is a pricey unit too. Obviously the main difference in end result as I'll have labour cost involved having Greg (same guy who did the other big work) put it in but there would be labor involved with the A-855 as well. so I'm thinking if the fab work was $1000 extra in labour over all that would put me at $4k vs. 4500k to have an extra gear (6th) and likely a tougher and proven tranny.

SO for the time being I satisfied my need for some sort of change in the shifter department. I was looking at the knobs on line and the stock looking hurst 4 spd was going to run me about $65... then I found this with the stick on ebay for $80 local... SOLD!

Hey GOON - while we're talking "shifting" to a 6 speed . . . I've gone a slightly different route and picked up a salvaged TR-6060 out of a 2012 Dodge Challenger to put into my car. The advantage that goes with it ( for my car ) is that it as already built to be bolted to the 5.7L Hemi engine . . . so now it's time for me to get to work and modify my hump to make it fit !

My initial thoughts for going with the 5-speed Tremec was that the hump did not need to be modified ( and my welding skills were very thin ) but I always wanted the 6 speed in my car - fast forward a year, and a LOT of welding experience under my belt . . . so now I'll be selling the 5-speed and the 6-speed is already sitting in my garage ! !

Not sure "what" I'll use for a shifter - yet - as I've got to get it in my car ( and my seats ) and find out where everything is going to end up . . .

( but I like the pistol grip shifter ).

" FER RACIN'!!!!!!!!"

Thar ya go buddy!!!!! Sounds good as can be :)

Hrmmmmm what's the story behind that 5 speed Tremec you have? Obviously you were going to mate it to your 5.7 but wondering what it would need for a Big Block?

I like the pistol grip too and will likely end up with one but I can't justify right now spending $400 on a shifter that I may change when tunnel mods are made. :(

I plan on selling the Tremec 5 speed ( work was done to it so it doesn't require tunnel mods to install - complete kit )

Very simple story - always wanted a 6 speed, but was afraid of the tunnel mods . . . not anymore, so I got my dream, a 6 speed, and I'll get it in the car ! !

To fit to a big block . . . probably just need a different bell housing . . .

UMMM, I sense a good deal coming to fruition here guys... Cool :)

So I am talking to Kahn about his Tranny the catch would be it's only rated for 500 ft-lbs. Not sure how on point those ratings are... I expect if my A-833 can handle what my car is putting out the Tremec could too.

Also just did a little comparison between the Ratios in his TKO-500 and the Passon A-855
Tremec
First Gear Ratio: 3.27:1
Second Gear Ratio: 1.98:1
Third Gear Ratio: 1.34:1
Fourth Gear Ratio: 1.00:1
Fifth Gear Ratio: 0.68:1

Passon
First Gear Ratio: 2.64:1
Second Gear Ratio: 1.92:1
Third Gear Ratio: 1.40:1
Fourth Gear Ratio: 1.00:1
Fifth Gear Ratio: 0.70:1

MAY have just hit the jackpot with exactly what I need and local! I'll keep Y'all posted!
