I’m building 2 440s- what should I build?

What 440 should I build?

A curiosity question....

In these days of uncertain economic times, due in part to inflation, rising energy prices, pending Ukrainian situation......WHY would consider spending large sums of money on something of questionable value? Wouldn't it be prudent to wait until the overall world situation improves? Making a mortgage payment (assume that you have one) makes more sense than building a "stroker six pack" engine with forced induction system (for what purose).....perhaps now is the time to reconsider....... Just my opinion of course.....

Bob, Thank you for your concern and advice. At first your comment made me  since you don’t know me and you assumed a lot of incorrect things but then I saw that you were just concerned. I wanted to reply so you could rest easy at night. The main thing to remember is man can make his plan but God directs his steps or in other words God is in control! The second part is my financial stability. I won’t go into actual numbers but I will say that at only 43 years old I have made a considerable amount of money buying and selling financial service industry based companies. I am a fiscal conservative who puts away more money than I spend. I donate 20% of my income to my church and other various social service organizations. I am heavily invested in a private company that returns Ponzi scheme like returns! So all though I appreciate your concern for. mine and my family’s wellbeing, know that other than a complete collapse of the US economy, we will be okay. :thankyou:

Old school blown! Nothing more intimidating

There is always something going on on this planet, enjoy life while you can because life is too short to sit and wait for better times.
Who cares about "questionable" value, build it and enjoy it.
There will always be a crisis, being war, oil/gas prices, covid, you name it.
^^^^^THESE STATEMENTS ARE FACTS NOT OPINIONS^^^^^

I voted stroker, mostly because you get the stronger connecting rods with 7/16" rod bolts.
It could also be the basis for any induction system.

I just got an insane deal on 2 440s and one even still has the 727 attached. Assuming the blocks are in good shape (otherwise the deal was not so good ) I plan to build them both. The first one is going to be a budget build, mostly stock, trying to get around 400hp. The second motor is where I need your help, should I go with a stroker kit, 6 pack, forced induction, or a combo of these?
Since you can only drive one at a time, your BEST option is to give me the other engine. Really, it'll save you alot of time and money. I think this is the best advice yet.

Stock stroke blown with h-beam rods, stroker with 6bbl and good rods.

Nothing worse than getting old and saying "woulda, coulda, shoulda". First thing to do after deciding is start amassing the parts. You never know how inventory is holding up and delays are a bitch.

Unless, of course, you are building an "end of the world" motor, minus any electronics, that will run on either gasoline or alcohol, which some people might actually distill in a nearby shed. And again, in a REAL bad world situation, your folding money won't be worth ****, so no real reason to worry about having any unless you need to light the wood stove.

WELL.....WHY DON'T YOU send me all your "folding money", because of it's relatively un-importance to you. I'll invest it in securities, real estate, and commodities and continue to build my NET WORTH and never look back to those with their "10 second pro-street" cars (with basically zero intrinsic [and monitery] value), wondering why they missed the opportunity to better their economic growth and development......other than lighting their wood stove. But...to each his/her own volition.

LOL, the guy building a $15K race engine, just because he wants to, could have more investments and financial resources than you will ever have....on what grounds do you make those opinions about the OP or others? You know nothing about their current financial status..?
For what reason are you attempting to enforce your thoughts with regards on when and where to put your money?
Like i said before, a guy who has a big mortgage on his neck and is struggling to get by will not pump his last savings, or loaned credit in his "10 sec pro street" car.
Even if he does, which is obviously not wise, it is up the person himself...

The question he asked is, what others would do with this engine he bought, so if you had the money to spend and the availability to do so, what would you build?
For a change, just GIVE YOUR OPINION on the question that was initially asked? :)

Oh ! ....I wasn't aware that you were the gate keeper of the forum. THANK YOU FOR YOUR observation and erroneous conclusions....what other people do and how they spend their money is totally up to them, including a "10 second Pro street car" or a rocket ship to Mars.....their opinions and or their individual financial resources are strictly personal....as are mine. Wether you agree or disagree with any or all of my comments, suggestions, observations, opinions or conclusions is of no concern to me or possibly anyone else. As far as my financial holdings and net worth evaluations are absolutely none of your purview.....without exception. To put the subject in more simple terms: I don't care what you think, do or say.....and I will continue to offer my thoughts when they are, in my opinion, warranted.

Exactly my point, yours are none of my business, same as that others are not your business.
I am no gate keeper, though i do wonder why it seems you never really answer any question that was asked, the reason for starting a topic.
You go on a certain side track and attempt to lecture us again on something totally not relevant to the subject.
And yet again, this topic is already buried under this discussions that are totally not relevant.

I don't care what you think, do or say.....
At least on this we share the same opinion.

@OP:
How's those 440's in question? On the dyno yet?
Made a decission yet?

Way off topic here… but as far as that conquering the Ukraine goes, Putin seems to be ignoring one thing there that’s going to plaque whoever owns it in the future. The remains of the Chernobyl power plant with its six tons of eternally radioactive coreage. Making yourself into a pariah nation to steal that which is certain to be an on-going maintenance issue that’s been a MAJOR undertaking for the whole world for oneself just doesn’t seem like wise planning.
Well, unless you plan on planting a Tsar Bomba there to have it on hand for a new doomsday device… the fallout would make a cobalt salted device look like a toy.
He's doing it for the simple reason that he did not want Ukraine to join NATO.

What I built.. A 512 with a six pack. Nothing sounds or looks better.

Hi Bob, I think I think we would all agree it comes down to discretionary income.
I spent the money on my roadrunner because it makes me smile - not because it’s an equity position in my retirement package.
If one gets into this hobby because it might yield a return on investment one might be barking up the wrong tree so, perhaps you can put a price on happiness.

I voted stroker. We all know the old saying... no replacement for displacement. Just be sure to use heads with enough flow to feed the extra cubes at whatever RPMs you want it to run at.

Having said that I would also throw a tunnel ram on it.
