I don't want to go to work tomorrow.

Well, I'll go at this a little differently. I WANT to work tomorrow doing what I WANT to do. I have been retired now for 9 1/2 years. Let's see, I think I will just kick back and relax, or cut some trees, or work on the Mopar, or..... I would recommend retirement to anyone:D.

I have had some down time between jobs where I didn't know exactly when I'd be working again. I stay up late, sleep in, work on the cars, the yard, the house... I guess it is like a mini-retirement. I've been training for my retirement for years!
I am both excited and nervous though. Each time one job ended, I expected to go back to work. I wonder how I will feel when I close that door. I've read that some people feel lost and without purpose once they retire. I don't think that I am likely to feel that way but what if? I have never been one to be defined by my job. The Superintendant on this project is salaried but he puts is a LOT of hours. He was on the job until 11:30 last night. A guy like that seems like the type that would go nuts.
I love working on the cars, pecking away on this computer, mowing the lawns, trimming the trees....I even like going to the dump as strange as that sounds.

People that no outside interests, hobbies or not enough money are the ones who have trouble with retirement.

I'm semi retired been self employed my whole life. I work everyday doing something, rolling the dice it never ends until I do, life is good!

Two months to go and the BOSS on the job wants to make me a "Foreman" or Lead-Man for the siding crew.
I just want to work my 8 each day and go home. No overtime, no Saturdays, none of the BS associated with watching and supervising people. I'm a great worker-bee. I get stuff done. He thinks there will be 10 hour shifts and Saturdays too.
If this were earlier in the job and he wanted me to run the roof crew or wall framing, I'd be okay with that. Siding just isn't that interesting to me. I had thought that the job was nearing the end and that I might be sent to another job. The man thinks we will be here until late June....months past my due date.
Things could be worse, I guess.
Maybe I'll do well and actually enjoy it.

Four day weekend, Wahoooo!
Anybody doing anything fun? I'm working on "Jigsaw" !

These work restrictions we are burdened with make going to work more of a hassle than ever.
About a month ago, it looked like every day could be our last with a potential "shut down" looming. When we were deemed to be "essential", we had some breathing room.
Two weeks ago we were told to work 6 feet apart at a minimum.
Monday of this week, we had to start wearing face masks. Have you ever tried to wear a face mask and safety glasses? They fog up every time you exhale.
We are in the 11th hour on this job doing siding and decor. This is some boring stuff, man...
I looked over my records and it looks like I crossed my 30 year mark at the end of March. This gives me a great feeling of freedom to do what ever I want: Stay, quit, skip a day occasionally, retire, whatever!
Check out the buildings that we are doing.

Great news KD. I'm counting down, 8 mo-14 days till 85 points and I'm out unless they offer a early out here at John Deere. My vacation renews in Oct. so I'd only have to work everyother day from Oct1st till Dec 31st.

It is a nice feeling to know that if the conditions are not the way you like, you can just call it quits!

I'm done August 28 after 40 years in this business. Gonna hit every fricking show and swap possible and relax, maybe even look for another c-body car to keep the Charger company, but then again the wife will come up with some to-do list, I'm sure.....

The buildings look pretty cool that you are working on.....

I've been retired for a little over 2 years. At the time, I had tired of the travel and repetitiveness associated with my job and I was in a good financial situation where I didn't have to work if I didn't want to. So I was ready to call it quits and I did. I've had no problem adjusting to the retired life and doing what I want when I want. In my opinion a person who is worried about getting bored should not retire; however, if a person gets bored after retiring there's always plenty of volunteer work or part time, no-stress jobs available to fill up the day. One very important aspect I learned about retiring. Keep your body on a schedule. I've always been an early riser and am most effective in the early part of the day, so I still get up at the same time I did when I worked and get the things I have to do that day done early on. Which means by early afternoon I'm ready for a bourbon and good cigar while I listen to Rush! Life is good.

Retirement is the goal and to be young enough to enjoy it, is a bonus. You only live once and it's not as long as you might think. So, if your moneys right, go home, my friends, go home!!

I'd love to go to work tomorrow....lol....but for obvious reasons I can't. We closed on the 24 March and can't re-open until at least 7 May...and I can't see it being anything like that early with 700 to 900 still dying each day here at the moment. However this has made me realise that not working is not it's all cracked up to be. Apart from my cars I've pretty much done everything I can or want to, to the house and I'm bored already. Ok I won't be trapped in my home/garden/garage when I stop work but even so I will have to make some sort of retirement plan ...a list of things to do and some sort of schedule to work to....or I'm going to get on my own nerves as well as those around me. Retirement is only 6 years and 9 months away!

I'm looking forward to going to work again. Being unable to drive around and catch up with people is not much fun. This is what it must be like to be under house-arrest. Having said that, a few chores and forgotten tasks have been done now. Others are waiting for materials that are missing.

I was talking to a friend last week, and he said to enjoy the time under lockdown, as it is the closest you'll get to feeling what retirement is like.

I corrected him and said that this is actually the closest to what living in a Retirement Home will be like. He agreed.

yep retirement or even semi-retirement is nothing like
being forced to stay home/inside or under lock down,
like todays circumstances

when it's not a govt. mandated deal

you can actually choose, what you want to do
where to go or what you can afford to do
(depending on your financial situation) in retirement
lots of things that cost very little $$$ & eat up lots of time, very fast

IMHO money & even sometimes the extra time needed,
dictates most of everything
(relatives "cost me", a huge part of my "FREE" time)

you'd be surprised how the time flies by

unless maybe you (not necessarily you per say) are the type
prone to be just a lump on the couch/recliner
then it'll be boring as all "hell"
