Ok guys,

Please identify this rearend. It was on my 69 RR but I do not think it is stock due to a variety of reasons.

In the pictures I tried to write the numbers so you can see them. The 2.71 is stamped on the yellow tag in the picture.

Please tell me how confident you are. :)
Thanks
Randy

And the 2.71 is the ratio? Really? So its not a 8-3/4 but a 8.25?

Can you give advice on the quality of this rear end and can it handle a 440 6-pack up front?

Don't think I would want to put a 440 6 pack to it. I would find me a 8.75 rear and put back under your roadrunner. Yes the 2.71 is the gear ratio.

That is what I figured. All not good news, I missed this when buying the car. Grrrr.

Its not so bad, 8 3/4" and Dana's are really easy to find. If you're Mopar pride doesn't get in the way you can even use a Ford 9" or a 8.8". 8.8"s on Explorers come with limited slip. Dana 44's on V8 Grand Cherokee's do too. The same goes for most 4x4 trucks. Granted, you will have to weld on new spring perches and possibly narrow them, but that's what hot rodding is all about. Having the welding done for you is cheap if you do all the prep work. If anyone give you crap... it's your car, who cares. Notice I left out the chevy rears? It's because they're crap... My buddy drag races a '68 Camaro with a serious 383 backed by a 8 3/4 Mopar axle.

Jeep Dana

8.25 will shred if you have a 4 speed behind that 6V. As far as the Jeep Dana, a neat idea right there. But get a later one. The wife`s Grand Cherokee, a 97, had a 3.73 ratio, limited slip, AND disc brakes . Good idea, all nice additions to the car. Don.

I wonder if the width will be right. Jeeps are kinda narrow.....
