If you could find a car that you once owned..

A 1969 Road Runner I bought in 1989 that was stored in a small garage since it was 3 days old.The car was wrecked in 1969 with 356 miles on it and when I bought it in 1989 it still only had 356 miles on it.I sold it to my Uncles friend who promised he would restore it.He kept it a few years did nothing to it and sold it.I found the car on Ebay a few years ago for sale. The car had changed hands over the years and all the originality of the car had been ruined. The car had some repairs done to it but still was not restored.I told the Guy I could get him the original title and he didn't even care about it.My Uncles friend still has the 1969 title,He kept it because he thought it was neat..WTF

HMMM between my 67 Satellite and my 64 Custom 880, i think the 880, the Satellite was a rust bucket with a fresh 383 rebuild, but needed too much work.

Long Story here.

My parents bought a 1964 Dodge Custom 880 brand new, gave it to me when i first started driving, but kept it in their name.

383, push button trans, Turquoise with Turquoise snowflake tuck and roll interior.

I drove it till 1989, when i got hired at McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach and was going to move to Ca. My dad and i went out and bought a 78 Chrysler Lebaron for me to drive, the next week he says, lets get rid of the 880, WTF Dad?????????

I think he just didnt want to deal with it any more, it was a driver, good shape, but i think it may have had a burned valve.

Soooo, I ask what we are going to do with it. Oh lets take it to the junk yard. WFT DAD??????? This was in 89, when C bodys were still just big boats.

So, we take it to the junk yard. Dad asks if the guy wants the car, junk guy says what is it? 64 Custom 880 dad says, Junk guy has no idea what it is. He offers $100. WTF Junk Guy?????

Before Dad can answer, they guy behind us, who will be found later in the story, says I will buy that for $100. So mystery guy buys the car. Bye Bye my road cruise.

So i move to Long Beach, then fast forward to 1994 i get laid off and move back to Seattle. I get a job at a service station.

One morning i am hanging out there and look up, and a Turquoise 880 goes down the road, HOLY POOP, i run to get a look, but it turns the corner.

A week later, i was working on a sunday and i hear the ding ding bell. I look up and the 880 is sitting there. HOLY POOP!!!!

I go out and say Hey i had one of those, he says really a Custom 880, I say yeah, and look at the license plate, same plate. I think this was my car.

I look under the bumper and under the dash where some holes were drilled, they were still there. Holy poop, this was my car.

The guy, Jeff Curtiss, had completely restored it, fresh paint, new interior, new engine rebuild.. He said he would sell it back for $3000, which was all it was worth back then. I didnt have it, i asked if he wanted to take it to my dad to look at, sure. We go home after work and my dad looked like he saw a ghost, but he didnt want to buy it.

Me and jeff stayed in touch for a bit, then lost touch. Fast forward to 2009, i joined Mopars Unlimited and guess who was a member, Jeff. He had sold the 880 a few yrs prior and didnt have the contact info for the buyer.

Sorry for the long story, wonder where all the 880's are, i have been going to shows for a long time and have never seen another 64 Custom 880, i had a 65 for a bit, i should look on the c body site.

I found my 440-6 cuda burnt orange last year. My wife said no way,you ain't buying it back.. She said i know what you did in that car back in the early 70's. Nfw.

I would like to have my 68 Charger R/T Green 440 mag & 727 buckets & console W/blk vinyl roof & blk deluxe interior, I only paid $350 back in 1974 it had a bad 727 tranny but it was $150 to fix that, I drove it for many years to school & work. At 1 time I had 3 Charger's & 3 RR's all 68-70's sitting in the drive way my mother got fed up & had all but my recent driver hauled of to the local wreckers, I was able to get some of the parts & 1 of the RR's a 68 & 1 of the Chargers a 69 back but they wouldn't give them all back. My parents were the title holders so they said they had the right to have them hauled off because I was a minor, 1 of the Chargers had all the parts to build a complete 440 & 727 10-11 sec ET race set up in the trunk & interior. My step father Bob (a fellow gear head) was so pissed off when he got home from work, he almost got a divorce because of the argument they got into about me & my/his cars/hot rods all over the property, there was plenty of room & they were stored nicely, but my mother was head strong if she said she was going to do something & you didn't listen to what she wanted, you would suffer the consequences. She had told me to thin the herd, but I didn't listen until she just had them all towed away. The 68 Charger R/T was my first real car I had some junk that we drove on the beaches before that, but not a real driver. It wasn't the best of the bunch even I just had a emotional attachment to it. To say the least I listened to Mom about parking my cars in specific places after that. I did go back & buy my Charger back but the parts were gone. I had it for a couple of years after that & ended up selling it to a cousin.

Just what DID you do in that car!? Was it a back seat issue? lol

Car #1. My '68 Charger. Gold with a black vinyl top, when it left it had a '69 HP 440, reverse manual 727 and 3.91's. Was one of the cleanest cars I have ever owned. Went to Indiana and I have been kicking myself ever since.
Car #2 '72 Duster Twister. Petty Blue. Hood strobes and scoops. White bucket seat interior, 318 4 speed with disk brakes and 8.75. Sold it to a guy in Canada that would 'give me first call' if he were to sell it. Yeah, right.
Car #3. Victim of divorce. '69 Dart GTS 340. Real solid Texas body. Gone since September but I sure miss cruising in the old girl...

My very first car - '70 GTX, 440+6, 4-speed, Track Pak. Bought it in '81 when I was a senior in high school. I tracked it down with the help of a law enforcement friend about 10 years ago. Found out it was just a couple of hours from me - still in WI (after having been in MI for a time). Talked to the then current owner on the phone a couple of times, but never got around to go see it until he had sold it and moved away. At that time, he was wanting to sell it to buy a motorhome to travel with. He was "interesting", shall we say. He wanted $30k for it. LOL - that car was never worth that kind of money. The original numbers 440 was long gone before I even had it, and this guy had put a white headliner in it. It was a black car - but originally burnt orange - can you imagine it with a white headliner? I think the interior was still burnt orange, too. LOL

I don't know where it is now - haven't run the VIN since. For the most part, I've been able to let go of it emotionally since I got the '64 in '09. But I may try to track it down again once I find the copy of the broadcast sheet that I think I have. That other guy didn't have it - even though I gave the original to the guy I sold it to back in the '80s. Whoever has it now would surely like to have at least a copy of that sheet if I come across it. I'd also like to see my '69 Sport Satellite that was my winter driver when I had the GTX. I'd be surprised if it still exists, though - since it was a 318 car.

I bought my 70 RR in 1980 when I was 15 and still have it. probably the only smart thing I ever did :)

The only car I really miss is my Buick. 72 GS 455 4spd Convert. Triple light metallic green, power bench seat. It was an unabused survivor with 80k on the clock. Still had the clips on the rear drums when I got it around 88. Sold shortly after my first daughter was born, needed the money and..........

The '71 440 6/pack plum crazy stick Challenger is always the 1st one I think about. The '68 formula "S" that I bought from Carl is right there also. The '65 Belvedere 440 stick was my 1st car,got that in the 9th grade:eek:.The one I regret the most is a '63 max wedge car that was restored by Jerry Stein:eek:.Light blue it was and I miss that one the most:violent-smiley-100:

Did you ever have that car at the old Glassboro, NJ Mopar show? This would have been in the mid 90's. I remember that there was a light blue '63 Max Wedge and a light blue '65 post car with a 383/4 speed parked behind me at one of those shows. Never forgot the pair of those cars parked there. I might have a pic somewhere.

My first Mopar: 1968 Roadrunner with 383/ 727. I was just barely 17 and the guy had it sitting beside his driveway covered with leaves. I pulled in and asked what the deal with it was. He told me he had a ton of work done to the motor but since getting it back, could never get it started. It was primer red with a hand cut rectangle in the hood for a tunnel ram that was never installed. The interior need some help, but wasn't too bad. I asked how much and he told me $1200. I went and got my Dad and went back. Dad said if it would turn over, we would tow it home. It did and we took it home, tried to start it but it backfired like crazy. Turned the dizzy 180 and it fired right up! The guy had given me a ziplock bag full of over $5000 in receipts for the motor work. That car was MEAN!!! Broke many hearts in town with my primer red Runner against all the 5.0 Mustang guys. A year later, my girlfriend at the time came up pregnant so I sold the car to my Brother in law. Keep in mind the car had 4.88 gear with a locker. My B-I-L decides he wants to take it to work via a 35 mile trip down I94. Tore the rear end up and put the car on it's side and gave it to the junk yard. Thankfully, a few years later my sister realized that his douchebag-ness didn't stop at cars and divorced him. I still miss that old car, and when I think about it I still want to beat his dumbass for trashing it!!!!

An odd ball here - my 1978 Ford short box step side 2wd truck or my '22 Dodge Brothers business coupe.....

I wish I had kept mine. You're smarter than you think. You wanna talk dumb. My second car was a "demo" from a Dodge dealer that went out of business in the spring of 1974. I bought the car (4000 miles) from the Chrysler-Plymouth dealership that I worked at all through college (summer jobs). Kept for a year and a half and sold to buy a special ordered for me, new 76 Cordoba, lean burn!! 400 (Protesting the government dictating that we had to have unleaded gas). What did I sell for $2400? 1974 Dodge Charger SE Brougham, 440 Magnum, B-5 blue, white vinyl landau roof, white interior, a/c, pw, am-fm stereo, cruise, less than 15,000 miles, etc, etc. The dumbest thing I ever did!!!

I wish I had not sold this one. I know where it is but I doubt the guy would ever sell it back to me. The single biggest regret in my life.

Without a doubt- my all black white tail stripe 383 4speed 68 Super Bee. Traded a $200 72 Galaxie even for it. 340 for a while, then 440 with 3.91's. !4" alum slots and all.(circa '84) Then 70 RT/SE Challenger. Orange/black top/interior. Got the 'Bee's drivetrain when I totaled the Bee. 69 340 Dart, 71 318 Chal, 73 cuda,66cuda, 75 Coronet Brougham. Damn, shoulda kept the cars and ditched the ex'es sooner.

The only car I wish that I had kept didn't really belong to me, but it was "mine", anyway. When I was 14, my dad bought a package deal pair of 1966 Ford Falcons, one 4 door with a 289 and the other a 2 door with a six cylinder. The plan was to take the 289 out and put it in the 2 door. Never happened and the cars went to the junkers when I went to college. Wish I still had 'em.

Other than those, the only cars I've ever parted with are a POS 1990 Ford Tempo and a 1992 Dodge Shadow 5 speed. I've kept the others, but I'm only 27.
