it kind of goes both ways, I've been working on a pretty involved build for one of my good friends who does to houses what I do to cars....... about a week and a half ago he calls and tells me he has a big job starting in a couple weeks and he needs fill in work for his guys to earn a check. Tells me he's got the labor covered if I buy the materials....

shows up with a small crew 2 fridays ago....... cleaned the concrete, trimmed trees, edged and cut the grass, and power washed the roof............ then they got to work lol

empty row by the back step is prepped for a deck; bow window was a pricey freebie, we ordered 2 custom pieces to match and fill in the sides...... 1-2 week wait, but everything thing else is pretty much buttoned

wife is in charge of final clean up

Wow, nice transformation. It looks 1000X better than the before pic.

yeah, it was becoming a concern........ but not anymore....... timing is everything

50 year old wood had some issues due to gutter failure

fixed her up like a rusty Mopar, even painted it green

now I have the freshest house in the hood

It does look great, nice color contrast, and a fresh, hip color.

I can paint my shop to match for about 200 bucks and a day with the airless sprayer...... got to tighten up my fence first

It does look fantastic. I'm jealous of your good fortune, sir!
There's a lot of "paint this, straighten that" needed out here as well, but no contractor friends
in sight - and as I found out when I got under Fred for the first time in half a year this evening,
my own carcass has reached the point where it's almost game over for me doing such things.
So...

Thanks Ed....... he owed me a little, now I owe him a little, in my mind anyway...... we don't really keep score though. he's practically family

Got to appreciate the guys who remember you were there for them when they needed something...

This gentleman took that a step further, you didn't have to ask....

Nice job the guys did on your house @eldubb440 .....I hope your wife fed the boys well while they worked.

I just don't do mornings well; for the better part of 30 years, I roll out of bed about 10 AM and get to work sometime after noon...... I'm a night person

and for about the past 5 years, 3 work days in a row is about my limit and my body needs a break.......

now 11 days in a row (minus one rain day) I was up at 6 because they showed up at 7, even Sunday; and I was highly involved.......Monday was the last day

I slept pretty much all day yesterday, I was whooped; now I'm up early today and don't have to be, but I do need to get back to work....... I walked outside to make sure it all wasn't a dream, it wasn't

what's it worth today vs 2 weeks ago?...... finished house vs handyman special....... I think I picked up at least a hundred grand in equity

:thankyou:

Barter/trade is a great feeling when you can work something out with reliable, skilled people. Looks great!

Nice! I just got me a fresh new bathroom the same way.

Looks great

I use to barter some with a couple of my subcontractors
on my Concord jobs, it kept people busy
Helped both side out too

I had a good bird hunting buddy, akc Lab Breeder too
we had guns & dogs in common, we did a bunch of stuff together...
We did a crapload of swapping & bartering...
He was a great electrician, and owned his own shop/contractors lic. etc.
He did a crapload of lighting maintenance for me
in dealership lots & signage...
He had a Pettibone lift on a trailer too, so he didn't have to rent it...
I did a shitload of carpentry or plumbing for him
on his jobs...

I hate to paint,
the one thing I disliked doing the most in construction
especially the prep work
But;
I have a nephew (a licensed contractor) that does commercial & house painting
he started out working for me...
Now he's so damn busy all the time, he's booked like a year or more out
he'd drop everything, come over himself,
when I needed something at one of the dealerships, done quickly...
(usually only if my crew was all tied up, most of my 'piece work' guys did everything)
I helped him with his cars & trucks, when needed
or electrical, plumbing or carpentry
on his house renovations/flips, he always had/still has one going...
He never did charge me like his normal customers...
I always made it good & worth his time...
He did the same with me too...
Many times no $$ was exchanged even, just time trade...

Roofing is another one, I disliked doing
especially hot-mopped or tar & gravel, mostly flat roofs
flashing & getting around the HVAC units is a PITA
(like almost all the dealerships)
I had another buddy with a roofing company (lic. contractor)
I kept busy, he'd do some barters with me too...

I do almost nothing now, Retirement is great...

I’m with #9 post. It‘s great to have friends with whom you can trade skill sets and no one keeps score. They’re usually the guys you grew up with. None of those around here but plenty in my hometown of Mpls.
