Jason's 68 coronet build

Nice. There is a repop of the center vent available from Classic Auto Air.

Since you are using the A/C dash why don't you use the A/C box or just order a new kit from Vintage Air or Classic Auto Air? Doesn't it get hot in IL?

TheMechanic, I've been searching for one of these but I couldn't see it on the website. Do you have to email them for details? Is it an exact(ish) replica of the center vent that is mounted above the ash try? Or similar enough that it mounts in place like factory?

Nice 68 btw! Looks really good. I need to wet sand some of my paint, the painter never finished it off entirely. THe buff makes it look great, but there is some swirl marks etc that I want to get rid of. Just a bit scared of stuffing it up!

I think you have it sorted, but yeah the whiskers need to be drilled and screw in a tiny self tapping screw to hold it in place. Works well. I did this based on feed back from here. you can try and line up the existing staple holes and drill them to hand push them through, but there really is no need.

It's listed as catalog Part# 2-2066FA-3 (vent) page 74 in the Perfect Fit catalog. It says 1970 only for some reason. I'd call and ask about it since it looks like the 69 center vent.

Any chance you remember what size screws you used for the cat whiskers?

Well we got rained out of work again. This is getting to be a new theme around here. I believe it is officially the wettest august on record. It needs to go away, we have way too much work to be losing 1 1/2 to 2 days a week. Anyways I made the most of it after doing paperwork all morning. Dash is installed. All glass is in except for the windshield. Drivers door latch assembly installed. It's a door slammer again, especially with all new weatherstrip. Going to take the night off to help a buddy work on his chevelle. Due to family schedule conflicts, church will be held tonight instead of Wednesday.

My glass man, Jerry, showed me you have to "zip" the seal after installing the windshield. Are you familiar with this? If not, I'll try to explain it.

Unfortunately, the PO who installed the new seal on my old windshield didn't know this. I'm lucky it didn't pop out at 70 MPH or a hard stop.

I actually found a glass guy locally. He came recommend by a mechanic buddy and has over 30 yrs experience. He is furnishing the windshield, seal, and install. For pretty much what it would of cost me to buy all the materials and have it shipped. Plus he is coming to my shop to do it.

Still couldn't find it, then I realised I was looking in the wrong catalog. It look spot on - well good enough for a non matching number etc etc. I'll shoot them an email. Thanks!

Not off the top of my head. I think they were size 6 1/2" in stainless. I'll see if I can find any left overs later tonight.

Whats the ZIP trick? I had a pro install mine, for a great price, but I am having trouble getting the lower trim installed... I wonder if this has anything to do with it?

Dude, slow down…. you are depressing me on how close you are getting and I am still trying to get a good paint job laid down :)

Don't worry Jim. I've still got alot to go. I will be dropping the tranny off next week. It will be built for the next engine.

Well since the original quarter extension nuts are long gone, I took the advice of some other members and ran a 1/4 20 die down the studs. Very slowly. It worked like a charm. Now I just have to shoot them and they are ready for install.

The other side I wasn't so lucky on. 2 studs broke during disassembly of the car. I cut the studs off flush and drilled a 1/4" hole. I then got some 10 32 ready rod, cut it to length and epoxied it in.

Ok update time. Was out of town with the family for the weekend. Good to take a break. Got back home yesterday morning. I was able to get the quarter panel extensions painted and installed. Along with the trim and taillights.

Need some help now. Where can I locate these trim mounting studs? I have 2 broke ones on the quarter panel extension trim.
