Has anyone ever used one or used one for a different year than the one specified for?

I have a 62 Belvedere w/ 318 and TTI headers that I need new exhaust for. TTI H pipe kits run $595 + shipping which will put me over $700 for exhaust.

I can get a full kit ffrom Jegs for $252 + free shipping, mufflers included. But it is designated for 68 to 74 B bodies. How different is a 62 B body? The kit comes in sections and looks to be enough to fabricate something that will work. The only parts I will be missing are the TTI collectors from the headers to the exhaust.

Anyone try one these kits (555-30502, header back dual 2 1/2" kit) or one of these kits on a different year? Will it work for my 62? For the savings I might have to try one.
Thanks

Well, I ordered it. Looks like most of the bends will work and I can always cut and tweek them as I go. Also purchased a TTI header collector kit to hook the system up with the headers. I'll keep this thread updated as I go incase anyone else wants to fit one to their older B body.

It shouldn't be too much of a problem until you hit the tail pipes. You might get lucky and need just a few tweaks to make them fit.

Hell, I put a Magna Flow E body system on my 69' Dart and all was good until the tail pipes, then it was cut and weld. Turned out awesome.

take and post some pic's guesing a lot of us would go this route if had more of a idea of the labor involved. good luck.

Update: I got the kit in and it looks good. Thick wall 2 1/2" and includes all fittings. I also picked up a TTI header adaptor off of eBay for a good price even though the Jegs kit includes a generic adaptor. The TTI adaptor uses a thick flange.

This kit needs plenty of modifications. The tailpipe is about 10" too long. The S pipe needs 3" removed from it to fit as well as cutting down the piece that fits in the muffler.

The straight section ahead of the muffler needs about 5" added to it. The driver side tube needed the bend straightened a bit to allow room for the pass side tube to t7ck up by the driveshaft. The header tube were pretty good although they don't quite center on the trans crossmember exhaust cutouts. I did have to tweak the pass header tube angle to get the straight pipe down and under the ebrake cable.

I am adding in an H pipe by the trans mount and I still have to put rear mounts for the muffler tailpipe.

Pics to follow when I get home.

I think the Summit kit is the same as the Jegs. Mine was made by Maremont. I had to do the same modifications that your doing to make it fit on my 65 Coronet. All I had to do to the tailpipes was shorten them, otherwise they fit perfect. It sounds awesome and am very happy with mine! It was worth the extra work!

Here are the pics as promised. The kit includes everything. As stated earlier, tail pipes need cut, s bend needs trimmed, long section needs 5" added on and a few of the angles needed tweeked.

Going from single exhaust to dual exhaust required 2 brackets on the pass side, tailpipe and muffler. The tailpipe bracket cutout was present on the pass side, just need a U nut, bolt and bracket. My fabricated bracket is a mirror image of the driver side bracket (which also needed repaired).

Final product. The H pipe sticks down a little lower than I would like but it is all welded solid and sounds nice. Hopefully some of the welded areas can be seen in the pics to give you an idea where they needed modifications. In total, it took me a day and a half to get welded up. Some of it was easy and some was frustrating (H pipe being frustrating). A few of the welds were done with an ill advised attempt with stainless wire when my regular wire was used up.

I would do it again as I like welding and fabrication. $254 vs. $700 is a no brainer to me. The exhaust sounds great, nice throaty rumble and I only noticed a little drone down low in the rpms, around 1500-1700. Cruising the highway was drone free. I'll try and get video or sound up in a day or two as I am working on fixing a coolant leak.

Good job! It looks very close to the kit I installed on mine. If I can get it on the hoist this week I`ll take some pics of it. I still need to install the h pipe.

Wouldn't it have been less expensive and time consuming to have a muffler shop fab up a system for you?? My experience with generic kits has been less than positive.

Here is a youtube video of it at idle in my driveway.

Nice.........as you can see I am a Belvedere owner as well. My car came out of 21 year storage with a 360LA engine. I am currently upgrading to a 408 on a 5.9L Magnum block. Are those TTi headers you used? I cannot find anything that is specific to a 62 B BBody but TTi.
I am searching out the exhaust set up now. That set up sounds nice, I may copy your buy on the pipes/mufflers from Jeggies.
Very nice, I will be looking in on you. Do you have more pictures of your car?

Nice looking car. Yes., those are TTI headers. I bought them used for $500 so I feel I got a deal. Fit very nice. If you get the Jegs kit, buy it without the mufflers. I had one of mine blow out at the seams, sounded like a bomb and my ears rang for a day. Switched out to Dynomax Ultra Flow and couldn't be happier.

Here are a few more pics of the car.
