Leaking compression fitting driving me nuts!

I could not locate the original either which was not a surprise given my location.
However I used the fitting I could get and it worked fine.
Once you establish a clean seat it will be good.
AN 6 or 8 are aircraft sizing/identifiers I understand but they seem similar thread forms/sizes to SAE or JIC.
Why all these engineers all had to have their own system is beyond me.
If it does not leak you are golden. Good luck

You would need diameters and thread pitches to help with your last question.
If it screws together and does not wobble around you should be fine.
My 2 cents - fit that o ring JIC and see what happens.

Too late to help here, but I had trouble finding a new fitting locally too and we have tons of industrial and hydraulic-type supply places....ended up getting mine from the Bouchillion guys..

Thanks its never to late to help others who read our threads later that need the same help! So how is that fitting working out for you? I looked it up on their website. That is the same I believe that was deemed 37 degrees and using the O-ring is nstead of the crush washer.

Just replaced a factory box that was never touched, copper crush washer on the pressure fitting and also on the return fitting. Just throwing that out there to give a bit of information.

Worked fine, of course my gear is currently being redone by steer & gear so I hope it works as good when it's back in the car

I noticed Mega Parts is selling the original looking fitting though they do mention it is for the Saginaw pump. Not quite sure on that. From my experience with changing pumps - The thread size in the steering box is always the same but there are two different pipe sizes from the pump to the steering box.

Strange I would have thought opposite. That the box threads would be different but the rigid flare line the same.

If you want to modify you could do anything. When I changed the stock Federal hose to the stock Saginaw hose the fitting/pipe size at the steering box end was one size bigger.
I bought that JIC hydralic fitting I mentioned earlier and it was job done.

My opinion: the hi pressure fitting on the steering box is flare fitting (37 degree) at the tubing cooection point a STRAIGHT thread fitting to the steeting box. At this end, there is an "O ring" (which is the sealing member) and usually a copper back up washer that insures that the o ring is compressed evenly. Since the fitting has the o ring as the seal, DO NOT USE ANY PIPE DOPE, TEFLON TAPE OR THREAD LOCKING COMPOUND, in spite of what you have heard or read. The seal is the o ring. Are you sure you are using the correct o ring? Its OD should be slightly larger (1/16") than the fitting bore. The o ring should be a nitrile or EPDM elastomer and you should be using a HYDRAULIC oil, ISO VIS 46, not ATF, in the system. The pressures can go as high as 1500 psi when at full lock. I'm sure others will have their own opinions.

Are you sure there is an O-Ring seal? The factory fitting did not have one. Just the copper crush washer. I did however find an after market hydraulic fitting as show in previous posts WITH and O-Ring however everyone told me that the copper crush washer was the factory set up. Now that being said I was told by the counter guy at the shop where I got the aftermarket fitting with O-Ring that it was rated to 3000 PSI. I do not know however IF the size of the O-Ring was exactly what I needed, was the right material and could hold up in a hot environment over the long haul. I therefore went with a simple copper crush washer and its working just fine!
