Let's see those side projects...

My side junk

Nice work. Had to take a second glance at your home, the colors match so well that at a glance it almost looks like a shake sided home. Very nice.
Thanks. not too bad for a first try at interlocking.
The wife just repainted the back of the house except the high parts so I pitched in. (she's afraid of heights!)
Save about $3000 to have it painted. I have no idea how much we saved doing the interlocking myself since no one would give us a quote...

Here's another project that I've been working on at the house - you'll notice that the well house "looks" like an outhouse sitting at the top of my driveway - and I never liked that from the first day that I moved into the new house . . . so the plan was to build the wellhouse into a structure and make it not look like an outhouse . . .

Here's the start of the project . . . going to build 2 carports to store my vehicles . . . with center storage . . .

sm_carport01.jpg

The structure is starting to come together - had to add a retaining wall on the one side to allow things to work out properly . . .

sm_carport02.jpg

Further along in the build - got the concrete poured on the one side and got my truck already making itself at home . . . still working on the other side . . .

You'll see the double doors above the door in the back - the door is access to storage, and the double doors open up and get me access to my canoe . . .

sm_carport03.jpg

Then I cam up with this little idea - a place to store all my tools around the house without tripping all over them . . .

sm_carport04.jpg

It's only about 1 foot deep, and everything has it's own place on the wall to hang up and have easy access . . . works GREAT ! ! !

sm_carport05.jpg

Might have to go throug it again and do some re-organization of the tools - and get them set up better . . . but it does work ! ! !

I'd say you succeeded, looks a lot better now and serves more purposes. Nice work Kahn

Great idea and a neat way to store those garden tools away from the clean garage.

The dark pix are flash assist under incandescent light. 40 grit to 1500 grit....then rubbed with red rouge cutting wax.

Old finish was clear, blue, white, & a ton of clear as a base....had a lot on it....good guide coat......natural finish is holy grail for TONE.....solid body or accoustic....layers of paint, clear, varnish etc., deaden the ability of the wood to resonate. For example, Taylor makes a 3/4 sized accoustic....the raw ones are louder & crisper than the full sized flat top accoustics w/ layered finishes. The lighter shade working around edges is what is left of the original base clear.

Thanks Wood Man....yeah i knew You worked at wood mill......im just going on brail......ive done some manzanita......id love to try some maple.......Meep Meeps does some unbelievable wood 'marquetry' boxes.....with interlock & inlay, gold and silver trim....just awsome stuff.
I love the natural wood finishes contrasted with the polished aluminum.....will be doing more wood bases in future. Some day when i have money, i want to collaborate with Meeps....id like to speculate something with You too if You'd be init.

My current project . . . in the works . . .

At my front door is a "half-wall" that separates the entry from the front room ( my house was built in 1973 - I'm still working on the remodeling ) and I had an idea to change the look of this wall to something a little more "craftsman" ? ? Well, that's at least the plan . . .

sm_halfwall04.jpg

Here's what it looks like from the door side - not much to see . . . at all . . .

sm_halfwall01.jpg

Here's the start of the design and the "fixing" of the wall - go ahead - try and figure out what I'm up to . . .

sm_halfwall03.jpg

After getting the holes close and cut out . . . I'm ready to turn them into cubby holes . . .

sm_halfwall05.jpg

So the wood inserts were cut, and work begins on the "fitment" of the wood inserts into the cutouts . . .

sm_halfwall06.jpg

Starting from the bottom . . . you'll see why I started at the bottom later . . . I got the bottom two fitted and in place . . .

sm_halfwall07.jpg

If you've never worked with biscuit joinery - this is pretty cool - got the grooves cut - the biscuits installed - ready to be glued . . .

sm_halfwall08.jpg

Get it all glued up, apply the clamps to hold the pieces in place while the glue dries . . . and you can see the start of the transition from an ugly wall to a little more modern ( and hopefully nicer ) partial room divider . . .

sm_halfwall10.jpg

Got a few more surprises in store for you on this project . . . stay tuned . . . more updates later . . .

Forgot this one . . . just got finished with it . . . needed an way to carry thing around the yard with the tractor, so I build a "carrier" . . .

Built the bottom with a way to attach it to the 3 point hitch . . .

sm_carrier01.jpg

Plan was to build a back and some side - and be able to carry firewood, and things around the yard . . . as needed . . .

sm_carrier02.jpg

Here's the finished product . . . and it's been shipped off to get powder coated - found a place that would do it for $100 . . . can't pass that up . . .

sm_carrier03.jpg

With it powder coated, it'll be well protected as it is used around the property . . .

So the bottom extension of the shelves is in place . . . extending all the way across the wall and attaching both bottom cubbys . . .

sm_halfwall15.jpg

Me next extension - will catch the tops of the bottom cubbys, and the bottom of the next row of cubbys . . . I like it when a plan comes together - but a straight line is still a little to "plain" . . .

sm_halfwall11.jpg

So how about if we change it up a little and put some dimension into the design . . . yeah . . . I'm thinking that might work . . .

sm_halfwall12.jpg

Now the shelves need to get the vertical supports added into the works . . . . how about a little change here too . . .

sm_halfwall13.jpg

Now - that's starting to look like the "update" that I need in this house . . . still got some more to get designed and built . . . stay tuned . . .

sm_halfwall14.jpg

Yes - one of the verticals was thrown in and I've not drilled the holes in it yet - I'll get to it . . . and more . . .

Looks great! When we built our house we did something like that, we have a basement stairway off of the side of the kitchen that rendered that wall useless so we studded it with 2X6's, built a cabinet face, installed shelves and now it serves as a nice pantry and just looks like a continuation of the cabinets. Always nice to find use in everything you can.
