Mechanical Paint Removal In Detailed Area’s

Hey guys what is your tip tricks tools etc. on removing paint from area’s that aren’t flat or that have a lot of mechanical details? For example see my shot below. Sandblasting not an option. I used Aircraft stripper in the 70’s and that stuff was good. Tried a few years ago and it looks like it had been neutered….

Also I have to do the floor which is very 3D.

LOL Wait till you get the next round of Environmentally friendly chemicals... Here is California my body shop supply store pretty much told me to save my money... I bought what he said was the best currently available, wish I would have saved my money...

Why is blasting not an option? detailed areas aren't a warpage concern, I'd seal up what I don't want blasted & break out a pressure pot...

I like sandblasting at home. I use tarps and section off the car so I don’t fill up areas with sand that is hard to get out later. Depends on how rusty your car is though.

also use wire wheels on power tools for those areas.

Blasting is my last resort. I have a hydro last set up that would work great but I can’t push my car out to work on it as I have a sloped drive way. Also the engine is in. I am not sure I would ever get all the sand out of it as well it would be a fn mess. Een using flap discs and polycarbonate discs but the intricate area where yes sb would be great are the areas I need to have some efficiency with.

Wire wheels are effective but make sure the wire wheel isn't an old wheel thats been used to clean oily/greasy parts cause if you use the greasy wheel paint won't be happy...

Yeah I have some small Rowlocks somewhere. Will try those tomorrow! That Eastwood sander is $$$

They're a real porus abrasive wheel. Hard to describe. But they get the paint+**** off without destroying the metal

Can you provide a link? I googled it and crud wheel is very generic.

I love those....... 3M clean and strip discs...... we have a non-politically correct name for them

you could mask the car with heavy plastic and some quality tape, open up areas to blast and fire away

Yup been there done that. These are polycarbonates some with silicon carbide. The problem is these are dang stiff and will not bend into the area that I need. I need one that’s flexible.

Here's where I’ve been. I got some also from HF that work well on flatter areas.
