Meep's 68 Road Runner restoration

Post 91 may help..
. You guys with the 68 Road Runners are the first to enjoy the first generation of birds, It would be unique and cool as it gets if we, who have these birds could get together, somewhere! (IF we all ever get them done) the first three generations on the Road Runners are the best of the best from Ma Mopar... MHO and i stick with it..
With the Dodge side, it is the Charger for sure.. great cars both...
Thanks Ron. I missed that little verbal detail but the pic in post 91 looks like a 68 hood to me. Sorry for the confusion.

I think gen 1 was the peak with 70 being at the top. Down hill from there IMHO.

No problem here... and i know your right thinking of the cars and after 70, i really love them all but like you said the first three, they are the ones for sure! I believe all the cars went down hill after 70 and 70 is when it started technically but, got to love them, ive been with my wife now for 42 year, were going down hill but were going together :) im old school and i love all the old cars, Mopars are the top of my list with the Road Runner being the crown... But, i wouldn't hesitate over a 63-64 Impala SS or a 67 Fairlane.. yep, i know im sick lol... Im weak in some ways!!!

13.8 on those tires. pretty impressive. the beeper is lookin good my 68 dart post was the same w1. with the top, it is nice.nice to see a someday car get done.

Good luck love my 68 IMG.jpg

My hat's off to you Meeps, what a beauty! Of course you started 7 years after me and you're painted first. I love it and can't wait to watch it go back together.

Just out of curiosity, what's the story behind the '69 hood in the 5th pic down?

When I first looked at this car it was complete with the 68 parts (see old pic with hood blackout) but had a rebuilt 69 383 in it. I made the deal to buy the car for $450.00 and it came with a complete air grabber setup and other body parts from a 69 RR that the guy rolled. Naturally, since I had the much cooler hood I thought nothing of trading my original one away. Not long after the trade, the 68 Sat that my hood went on showed up at a local junk yard. I immediately inquired about the hood but $75.00 was way too much for me, however, I did scrape up the $20.00 to buy back my original inserts, which are on the car now.

That rebuilt 383 came from that wrecked RR and the day I picked the car up the guy asked if I wanted the greasy engine that was sitting in the dirt. To me it was more cool parts so I said sure. Later I realized it was my numbers matching engine. The numbers matching tranny was in the car but I gave it away to a buddy when I did a 4 spd conversion in auto shop. Years later I asked that same buddy if I could see my old tranny and sure enough I gave him my numbers matching tranny. The best part is all I had to do in order to get my tranny back was to have another tranny professionally built for him, including swapping all his special race guts. That operation was recently completed along with the 383 machining and the same 3.55 SG on my bench going back together. The white bird will be complete for the first time since I've owned it.

Yep, I got really good at peddling this out of the hole. Ran 104-105 MPH in the quarter and shifted that 833 like a TF. And X2 on the "someday" car. I don't feel so guilty anymore! lol!

A few shots of the trip. The buildings are in Jacksonville, OR. Very cool little town and probably fewer tweakers. The snow capped mountain seen over the hood shot is Shasta and pics are taken on a lookout point on Hwy 5.

love those beautiful old buildings.hate the new cars. that old white one is looking better and better!:icon_mrgreen:

Looking good Meep! Love the white with the blacked out hood... very nice

Meep great to see some color! It's a great feeling isn't it. Although I was a nervous wreck getting it home to the garage where it was safe. Keep us posted.:headbang:

Sure came out nice Meep, don't see to many white ones running around so it's sure to stick out. At this stage in the game I have to imagine the project will go into overdrive now! Good luck and congrats.

Ya know, I've been noticing a deficit of white Road Runners. This one is a décor package car and came with hood blackout, vinyl top and accent stripe (1/8" pin stripe).

Very cool Meeps, you don't see many white RR's,
it'll look great with the old-school slots, pinstripe, black vinyl top, black interior {?} & hood blackout

Looks like the guy {Mike} from Oregon is doing a great job, congrats,
you'll have your Concord HS car back on the road....
I'm envious really, so far in such a short time

First I've seen of this.....VERY nice. Updates?
