Team,

So, like everything else.....the transmission sat for 40 years. The unit was full, and the fluid is reddish, and does not smell burned. I have the transmission out and will rebuild it....but do you think the converter could still be good? It was totally full as well.

Drain the 40 year old fluid, refill and go with it.

Any way to eyeball it, and or test it? Put the wooden handle of my body hammer in and spun it and it seems to move ok.

Here’s the number on it

There's a one-way clutch in there. Should spin one way and not the other.

Yeah, but one is the stator right? The other is the turbine.

When you tear down the trans, grab the stator support and insert into the converter and follow with the input shaft. Then you should be able to spin each. Look on line for a converter tutorial to understand what you are looking for.

It's been full of fluid all these years and it's red and doesn't smell, there is no reason that it should not be good. I wouldn't spend money for another converter until I knew for sure.

I'll take pic of the fluid for you folks to judge.....

She’s definitely not burned. No varnish.
