More wideband O2 tuning...

When you first floor it,it will go rich for a split second as it reacts to the accelerator pump shot. 12.5 # WOT is good.

Yep figured the rich part was the accelerator pump. 12.5 is good, just need to work on it everywhere else. LOL

For what it's worth. I was talking to Holley Tech last week about a different issue but asked him about this. I have a very cheap AF meter on my car. I told him at cruise, my ran about 13.5. He said I would never get the ideal 14.7 running a carburetor. I have the 750 vacuum secondaries on my 400 by the way. He said most of these engines run 13.0-13.25 as stated here a few times, and if I was getting 13.5 I was lucky. I know it was just the opinion of one tech, but good enough for me.

Now why would he say

Now why would he say something like that. Carbs have been refined to where they are highly adjustable. You want leaner? Restrict the fuel for that circuit. All the way to 30-1 if you want. After that its up to you to see that it gets lit.

problem with getting a carb on the lean edge is, when the weather changes so does the AFR, I shoot for 13.5ish idle & light cruise, 12.3 WOT with E10 junk fuel.

Yep, Saturday we went to a show. On the way home I had my "choke tune" at 13.5ish it started to rain and cooled off. It started getting fatter.
87 E10 is about as good as it gets around here.

Good point. I still gotta question why that tech would say that. Its simply not true.

The mains should be in by 2800 rpm so try adding a bit of jet. I would go up 2 sizes to start. What power valve is in there? Does it get richer or leaner on moderate acceleration?

Been playing around with the carb still. Raised the float level and now I'm getting closer. Actually its rich now, before it was on the lean side. Now I can start closing up the idle screws.
Idle in park and cruise is in the 13's. Idle in gear is 14ish. WOT went up a bit to 11-12's. Don't spend a lot of time there.

Depending on your combination, running that lean will cause higher engine temps
