Most American Gun?

Many good options listed!

Most American? I’m gonna say the one that has been previously mentioned, the lever action 30-30. That rifle, to me anyways, represents the iconic image of the old west.

Just so you know, The 1892 was the actual model used in 90% of the "Westerns" The 94 was too sloppy in the action for rapid fire in the movies. John Wayne, " The Rifleman" etc all used the 92 short action. Usually matching the caliber of the handgun so the same ammo could be used in both. Check out the rifles in the next western you see. Also notice how many "1873" Single Action Army revolvers are used in pre 1873 time period movies. The movie guys didn't get it right very often when it cam to details. In some movies they grafted the casing ejector rod from a single action onto a double action to make it look "western" and be quiker to reload for action shooting. Just got to look closer at the guns.

Most American gun
I will throw my vote for the Kentucky rifle
After that any winchester, Remington or henry.
But I do love my Marlins

Really fine piece I have that's not Merican is my K31 swiss

1911 is at the top of my list.
But I'm proud to say my dad mills out about 300 Smith and Wesson pistol barrels and slides a day.
I don't own one but I may get one.

You are kidding, right? I was referring to the popularity of the 870 since its inception in 1950, not recent financial difficulties, buyouts, etc. If you like Mossberg, fine. It doesn't mean everything else is inferior.

NO, I'm not kidding! And I wasn't talking about the financial crap either, I was talking about how popular the platform is with the repair shops because of inferior quality & quality control, but you're to blind to see that!!!

Having had or still have several of the ones listed here.

The ones that go bang

Even better is the ones that just .pfffft

Colt 1911, 110 years and it's still the most popular and copied handgun out there for good reason.

Yea I guess I must have been hallucinating while shooting Trap for 6 years at 10,000 rounds of ammo per year, winning money for shooting both leagues and tournaments, using nothing more than a 5 year old 870. All of it without one single failure of the gun itself. Sorry, I know better than to believe otherwise.

Got my 870 at 12 years old, still has never failed me.

1187 and it’s been used and well abused and still works great..

I worked for Remington for over 12 years and the one comment/story we heard the most at various events was "I got an 870 when I was XX and still have it today" or some equivalent of that. I worked the Defense side so my focus was tactical guns and in fact developed the 870 Modular Combat Shotgun (MCS) along with another guy. The 870 has been in constant use by a wide variety of military forces since the 1960's. The SEALs bought 870's in 1969 which they are still using today, the Marines gave up their 870's in favor of the SA M1014 but later Force Recon resurrected the 870s for breaching guns. A 870 went with 22 SAS into the Iranian embassy at Princess Gate. 870's are almost indestructible and infinitely rebuildable.

The 1100 is a great shotgun overall as is the 1187 but both can have issues if the right ammunition is not used. However, the Versamax ended up being an exceptional shotgun and will shoot about anything you feed it. I have some of all of them and generally prefer one of my 870's overall but I have to admit that I do love shooting the Versamax a lot.

a 1911 or its equivalent is a great gun to be sure and I think everyone should own one, but I would never carry one again because there are much better choices for carry or combat hand guns out there. The 1911 was "the ****" in its day but that day has long passed. Not hating on them, hell I own like 9 of them but there are just better choices in terms of weight, capacity, and accuracy. I have shot them competitively, carried them professionally and for a time carried them personally but I definitely wouldn't today unless there wasn't a better option.

And just for the record the 1911 is so heavily copied because it is easy to copy.
