I posted this over at the other forums as well. I would like to get opinions.
When I change the oil in the 67 and 73, I generally use good oil, put some zinc additive in. Then I usually keep a quart of oil, among other things in the trunk, especially for trips. So I happened to be at Walmart yesterday and thought I'd pick up a quart of oil to toss in the trunk. I found this. Not terribly expensive which made me wonder, and I know it is a no name brand. But like everything else, someone has to make it for them ... but the interesting thing is it says for 88 and older, with extra zinc. Anyone ever seen this stuff or used it?

Just because it is a no-name oil doesn't mean it is bad. I mean who was Brad Penn before Hemmings and such started talking about their oil with the added zinc.
However all I can seem to find is it is distributed by Warren Performance Products.

The various reviews are much the same as on the other forums. Folks who have tried it say its fine, others say I won't try it because it is cheap. Just because it isn't more than $10/qt doesn't necessarily make it junk. But I would like to see more info on it.

I have never heard of it, but know some people in the oil Biz who can look into it. No name is not always a bad thing, Wal mart brand antifreeze is from the same place as Prestone.

....I've seen a lot of stuff out there for this oil since 2009.....nothing really horrible, but still, I use Val VR1- 10w 30 Racing oil in both mine .

look for the "mom"mark.(motor oil matters)kind of a starburst circle thing.also look for the api circle as well.those tell you it has gone through the proper testing.motoroilmatters.com is a good place too look for info.

It's not the "recycled" oil that I heard Wal-Mart was selling? That would probably have a lot of Zink in it...

If you're at walmart shopping for oil, check out quaker state defy. I've been using the 5w-30 for the last year and a half, I think it was released in 2012. 1200ppm ZDDP in the formulation and only costs $15 for a 5 quart jug. It's marketed for use with flat tappet cams.

That is a really good price. ($3/qt) At that I could save a couple quart bottles and simply poar some in to put in the trunk.
Thanks for the tip.

Same here as all I have ever used is the Valvoline oil. I use the Valvoline VR1 20W-50 but I have been fooling with hotrods and Mopars since the 70's and I have never wiped a cam. Ron

Sonny uses, AMSOIL Z-ROD Synthetic Motor Oil. It is specially engineered for classic and high-performance vehicles. It features a high-zinc formulation to prevent wear on flat-tappet camshafts and other critical engine components, along with a proprietary blend of rust and corrosion inhibitors for added protection during long-term storage. Z-ROD Synthetic Motor Oil is designed to perform on the street and protect during storage ( I do not sell it)....just info...

Also if you have a "leak" it will find it!..(joke):eusa_doh:

Cr8crshr has been told by many engine builders Sonny that Synthetic Motor Oils are not the best way to go with these older rides. So I only use Brad Penn in my ride.

Synthetic per my builder Mopar Engines West - after break in. Amsoil Signature Synthetic 10-40 high zinc.
