Didn't read all the posts so I don't know if anyone mentioned the location of the mufflers can make a difference in sound. The closer they are to the engine, the louder any muffler will be. I've ran straights most of my life (I'll be 65 soon) and found just adding crimps to the pipe will reduce the sound. Many say that crimps will reduce the flow but your boundary layer airflow is always slower than the flow is that runs down the center of the pipe so 1/8" deep crimps won't slow down the flow much if any but will have an effect on sound. Just some food for thought.....I like to experiment and build stuff and think out of the box. Maybe it's just the look people have when they see stuff that looks like it shouldn't work when they see some of the things I've had on my rolling junk piles that keeps me doing this stuff lol
I will say if you want a good flowing muffler I would consider the Dyno-Max Ultra-Flows. I run them because I race through my full exh so I wanted a good flowing muffler and they are basically straight through. But my car is not all that loud just idling and cruising. But when you floor it then it gets loud. I can tell you my sons Dart with Flow Masters picked up almost 2 tenths when we uncapped it as I was surprised they slowed it down that much. Ron
I've always liked the tinny popcorn sound of the valve events with the Flowmaster muffs, the Dyno-Max Ultra Flows are a good muff and move more air without the volume or the tinny sound. However the Jone's Ultra Flows move 100cfm more air than the Dyno-Max when comparing the same main body...
If you like the Ultra-flows sound, your going too like the Jone's Ultra Flow muffler even more.
I put a pair of 12" x 3" hotdogs in the system next to the fuel tank on the weekend and I reckon it may have made enough of a difference. I have lost a little bit of the rasp, but over all the sound is pretty good and a few db quieter I reckon.
I am considering replacing the triple flows still at a later date as I'm not really convinced they are the best flowing, but for the moment I think this will work!
