ok this may be a hot topic but was wondering what others in the hobby thought, I am careful about what I buy and How I restore it yes i love fixing car have all my life but I think this market will slowly get weaker due to the younger gen not being in love with the 60s cars and a lot to reports I have read talk about older collectors starting to sell their cars

Some "older" collectors start selling their cars while they can still think --as a way to help their kids out with the task of selling.
It is a general norm that when everyone is selling prices fall.
The muscle car market will fade with those that like them fade. It looks good for now.

I think everything ebbs and flows...Are you in it as an investment or for the love? I don't know many that have built cars and made money at it. They usually build to their liking which really ends up limiting their target group.
I've know a lot of people that have bought cars and did minor things and sold them for substantial profit....flipping basically. Money is made on the purchase, much like a house...
The general economy dictates how much disposable income people have too which will of course affect overall prices.
If your not worried about a return, forget about it!!!....enjoy life and the toys you have!!!!

The economy certainly isn't helping. And swap meets are definitely out of their hay day. Younger generation is still interested, I know that I certainly am, but there's far too many people out there who want crazy amounts of money for their rusted junk. Turns you off the hobby when you can't touch a half decent builder for a decent price. I've been trying to get a 70 roadrunner for years, can't find any that are half decent projects for under 10,000.

I went to a cruse in last night with the wife. Of about a hundred cars, I saw very few younger people there. I'm talking maybe thirty five and younger. I brought this same question up to her, and she very much agreed. Were it fellas. These younger guys won't have the disposable income to invest in a car.

Agreed. I will have this car until I pass on. Then it's the kids problem to try and make a buck on it.

Garrett what part of Texas are you in? I think swap meets are thriving. I've been going to the Pate swap meet for the last 14 years, the last 5 have been bigger than the previous years. I also go to the Conroe swap meet regularly since I was in my late teens, there are 3 a year and each of the last few years it has grown exponentially.
Some do ask stupid money but there are still some good deals, I usually make money when I go.... Pm me and I can give you the dates if interested...

Yeah, I've sold a few this year and last and the youngest buyer was probably in his mid 40's .. my cars have been in the 12/20K range so they sell but I think high end cars have peaked again from what I've read... think there are a couple cycles left while we're breathing, afterwards think its over for the most part because the guys and their kids, who grew up around these cars, are gone

I attended a car show two weeks ago. It was for 1962 and earlier.
I don't recall many folks showing that were appeared to be under sixty.
The viewers were a mix of all ages that seemed to enjoy the cars.
We all like to see cool cars but those that do the work to keep them in shape are getting out of shape.

I always figured once all us old fellas started pushing daisies, classic car values would drop. But these days I'm not so sure. Look at 20's to 40's cars; values haven't fallen off the cliff as our Greatest Generation passes. So once my generation departs, why would our cars? Fact is classic cars are legitimate works of art, whereas modern cars, though impressive technological marvels, are no more memorable than a really quiet dishwasher.

Dallas. Was at Decatur this past week. Sold about 5 things during the 4 day period. From my experience, people come look and make comments on how it's good that people bring Mopar stuff out, but they usually don't buy anything. I don't ask for crazy money on anything, and some stuff beats eBay prices.

It would be interesting to know what the avg. age is of FBBO members.

We age at the same rate as the cars we play with.--60sec. per min.--
But our cars can be fixed again and again to be what they were-- us -not so much.
We will live on in a few photo albums.
Our cars may just transport some of our grandkids to shows before the cars themselves come to rest in a museum or where we will be.
The "market" is a rather narrow part of this hobby.

You need to go to Pate, last week in April, about 20 of us come up on Weds and stay until Sat....good times! I found brand new bumpers for my 67, found. 66/67 GTX & Charger buckets, and some other tidbits.... It was the best mopar year so far....

I go every year, set up a booth with Mopar stuff for the past 2. Usually will have a 6x6 at the booth for sale. Not terrible by any means, don't get me wrong, but web sites and repops keep a decent amount of people from wandering around on a hot day out in the sun, hoping to find what parts they need.

Well guys if you quit hogging all the good stuff maybe some younger guys would pick the hobby up. Finished cars arnt going up in price ,parts are and project cars are . Some where there's someone raping his fellow man to make a quick buck . There's no 73-74 base charger rusted to hell worth 7K your just high a finish car is 8-12K help me out with the math guys it doesn't work.these kids are useless there all prissy don't want to get dirty. I had one the other day come over to borrow some tools to change his wheel studs he broke off .his mother said be a man and fix it your self after I gave him the tools he came back 15 mins later asked if I would do it he would pay me . I went over to see how far he got GE couldn't get the wheel off it was to dirty and the nuts were tight

I get younger people to my shows we allow anything in even there cars and guess what one came in the other week with a 77 camaro so let's let them in to the shows guys let them get a feel for the power and the cars it might just save this hobby

I know quite a few younger guys (Like myself, I'm 18) that love classics. I plan on keeping my 73 Charger as long as I can. We're out there, so when you get tired of your cars, just PM me and I'll take care of them! Lol...

it was only a few months ago the Johnny hunkins( editor MM ) was calling us a bunch of "hoarders" that were keeping the young'uns out of the hobby because we won't sell our **** at "reasonable " prices or won't sell at all. I like my crap and plan on keeping it ,so I guess the "young'uns " are just going to have to work hard and save for years just like I did . why do they and everybody else seem to think we should "give " our **** away so a young gun can get into the hobby . I remember thinking why are so many old guys driving these hot cars , simple it takes years before you can afford one
