My 1971 Road runner

What I meant to say in my last sentence was....Once the weather warms up I hope the carpet will relax.

Love the black and white color combo. Just read your whole thread, your doing great work.

Many Thanks 71RRHI!
I got the front half of the carpet installed today.
Feb 21st (12).jpg

Of course I had to put some weights on it to get it to flatten out as its only 5* Celsius in my garage.
Feb 21st (11).jpg

I also got the dash frame out of storage and took some reference photos before I start taking it apart.
Feb 19th (5).jpg

And the dash pad is beat to ****.....
Feb 19th (17).jpg
Feb 19th (18).jpg

I started cleaning up the underside of the speaker cover.
Feb 20th (6).jpg

And got a start on the underside of the dash frame. It looks like they never had paint on the inside from when it left the factory.
Feb 20th (9).jpg

Making some progress.

Next step is to drill out the hole to install the reverse light.
Any members here have a reference on the location of the reverse light? I do know it goes beside the ash tray but am not sure on how close to it should it be?

Looking great. I noticed the same lack of paint on the back side of my dash frame as well. I'm guessing it may have to do with generating a better ground once installed.

I've received wonderful help and advice from Jimmy Boros on the 71 through 74 B Bodies. Including his email... [email protected]

I had time this past weekend to try and get the front half of the carpet to lay flat.
I borrowed a steamer from my work.
Feb 27th (10).jpg

So I can put some steam on the carpet to get it to lay flat.
Feb 27th (6).jpg

It took some effort....
Feb 27th (5).jpg

But all in all it turned out just fine.
I trimmed up the edges where the sill plates go too.
I did use some Alien Tape on the 4 spd hump to keep the carpet molded properly.

I'll wait to cut the hole for the shifter.
I did manage to get the holes burned thru for the seat tracks. I used a soldering gun to do that.

I don't have the exact dimensions but here is where mine ended up. I did use reference pictures for the location.

Many Thanks Rockland - the light looks to be closer to the ashtray in that photo.
Down low too, so that's where I will place mine.

I used this to install mine. Car is looking great!

So we had a warm spell this weekend...so it gave me time to put some primer and paint on the dash frame.
Primer first.

Then I applied some satin black to the underside of the frame and the speaker cover..

The top of the frame got flat black paint followed with a topcoat of black suede textured paint.

I also started cleaning up the defrost ducting and noticed something weird.
The passenger side outlet had this funny shaped piece of metal on it.

Here's a closer look at it.

Anyone ever seen this type of plate before?
The staples holding it on look like the rest of the staples on the duct.
Why would it be there?

Changing airflow direction more than likely. How late of production is your car? Could have been an engineering change mid production and they came up with this 'fix' to get by until the vendor making the duct could alter production. Just an educated guess.

That sounds like a logical answer Nxcoupe - it would make sense.
The build date on the car is Feb of 1971.

Not much done this weekend - I did get to install the 'go' pedal....
March 13th (1).jpg

And install the door sills - now I can close the doors once again.
