I've been doing a 67 coronet takeing pictures as I go... I hope you marked the steering shaft and gear box Pittman arm etc when the weel was straight up and looking from the box along the shaft there are reference points along the way that line up... I use white out to mark every thing then freshen the marks after I paint stuff... I've done my last alignment with the steering one or two turn off
 
I'm sending my box and pump to Steer and Gear to be rebuilt as a Stage 2 unit. I'm hopeing that I can drop the steering box through the gap between where the K member bolts to frame rail. I really don't want to pull up the engine. I was going to have my plastic instrument bezel restored. I 'm not gonna send it out right now not with a 3 to 5 month wait. I didn't mark it Didn't think about that
 
Good luck on your pump, Your doing some good work to bring it back to its former beauty! and man, i love "the empty wallet" lol, it really hits home!! :) We have T-shirts that say "Real men drive Mopar" It does takes real men to drive them when we go as far as we do to bring them back to have the best the manufacturers had back in those days! :eek:s_dancing2:
 
Had my son help me today remove the steering box, So much for taking the box out without raising the engine, I'm the fat guy in the picture

OH GAWD!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Put your shirt back on. LOL Just kidding. If the people that put these cars together had to work on them, they would sure leave a little more room to work on them. It's not like an older p/u where you can crawl inside the engine compartment.
 
I'm very interested in this thread. I bought a 1974 Dodge Coronet 4-door with PS, PB, & AC last fall and there is an issue with the speedometer (which doesn't work) and a heater control cable which is apparently stuck by rust. I had a mechanic at a local Dodge garage look at it but apart from squirting some oil in the cable housing he was unable to help with the speedometer problem.The needle swings wildly or when it isn't it seems to indicate 20 mph consistently over the true speed. (I double-checked this with my GPS) I sometimes hear a metallic noise from the housing too. I've just about decided the only remedy for this is to have the speedometer rebuilt, but how much trouble is it to pull the instrument cluster? I see you did it with your 1972 so your experience is probably useful for my 1974. Did you have to drop the steering column down like that as you show in your pictures or was that not necessary if one is just looking to access the speedometer?
 
If your cluster is like mine you have to lower the column. If you have a helper have them hold the column up so when you undo the bolts the thing dosen't hit you on the head. You will have to undue the wiper and headlight knobs. The heater control cable and connectors are a bit of a pain. The plastic bezel is screwed to the instrument cluster.
 
I see the Coronet dash is identical to the Charger, that will help you broaden your search when looking for replacement parts, just had my dash out repairing wiring, everything works on mine now except the clock...is that replacement guts for your clock I see?? If so, where did you get it? I feel your pain when it comes to vinyl roofs, saw this on mine yesterday, did a temporary cover up till I can get back there and cut it out for some new sheet metal, nice project, will be watching.

The clock kit was from Instrument Services Roscoe Illinois. I also ordered the video for the clock. The video helped me more to assemble the clock than did the instructions. You can also send them your clock to restore. I'm waiting for my dash to come back from just dashes.
 
Did some work on her this week. I decided to paint part of the inner fender. It's primered now. Will give it some color this weekend. That way when the steering box is in and I pull the engine I won't have to remove it when I do the whole compartment. I had to press the pin at the end of the column shaft to get it out . Then pressed the new pin in and assemble the coupler. As you can see my little helper was tired. My dash will be here next week

Since the Easter Bunny didn't bring me anything I just did a little detailing and installed a new radio suppressor

Thanks Since I started on my 4 door I've been noticing alot more classic 4 doors and wagons on the road and being restored.
 
yeah, its always nice with a new dash pad, mine only has a single crack, so I'll live with it or get one of those dash covers someday, build is coming along nicely!

I remember back in 83, my buddy had the exact same 73 4 door satellite 318 car, same green too, the heater in that thing would cooks out in the winter, it was a great running car.
