My charger restoration dream car

How's the Charger coming along?

How's the Charger coming along?
Things have slowed down for now. Seems like every week we have been gone to one thing or another, then I have to catch up on work. We also have been enjoying some vacation time riding horses in the mountains and fishing.:usflag:

Agreed! Everyone needs some down time. Great country for trail riding!

I did get a couple things lately. I had a hard time deciding what to do about my power steering. I was going to get a factory rebuild replacement but after reading many different articles I decided to get a Borgeson power steering replacement. It was more expensive but the advantages sound like they are worth it. Lighter with tighter modern steering.

I also got my transmission back from St. George Transmission.

Oh and coupler for column. Not a big deal.

There is more header clearance with this box, and lighter.

Thank you GTX for answering for me. I was gone fly fishing up in Idaho on the St. Joe river and just got back. I think that it will be a good power steering unit.

I took my engine off of the engine stand to get it ready to install into the car. I attached the K frame and lower control arms etc. I set it, and my transmission, on a wheel cart and will join them together and install them from under the car.

I test fit my headers to make sure that everything will fit. Everything seemed to fit well, even around my borgeson power steering.

The pitman arm replacement that I got from PST has a different twist but seems to put the joint in the same spot.

I found the same thing on my pitman. Is the steering column in car? If not you can install the starter (if it's a mini) after headers are on. It will help if cables are on starter also before install. I dropped mine in from top so not sure if engine will install from bottom with headers on. Make sure to put 1 quart of ATF in the convertor before installing. If oil sending unit isn't in it would be easier now.

Thank you for your tips. I was able to check everything you suggested before installing, it helps. My steering column is only temporarily installed in the car but I did remove my headers before trying to install the engine. I remember that you were able to install yours from the top so I should be able to. I will probably put on my old cast iron ones when I brake in the engine so that I don't over heat my headers and discolor them.

The temperature cooled down to around 100 degrees today so it was a good day to be outside (last week was around 112 to 115 degrees.). I had fun. Everything seemed to go as I had planned and I reunited the engine and transmission into my car today.

Removing the front castors. I won't be needing these anymore.

My son was glad to help me because he wants me to help him with his 64' Galaxie.

Really nice job! Must be a great feeling to put back the heart of the beast in place!

That is awesome!

By the way, I am stealing your paint scheme for my GTX :)
