If anyone is waiting for parts, Nigel hasn't had power since Saturday like many of us so expect delays. His, like ours, currently show no time of a restoration estimate, but looks like maybe Friday night. High wind and freezing rain just started again, so that won't help the power crews one bit.

Many parts of Ontario will be out for another week by the looks of it...

We started getting freezing rain here about noon. The trees were getting coated in ice. I think it has started to warm up. It is still raining, but the ice is mostly gone. I had to dash out and cover up my banana plants. LOL

Jeez...even I don't try to grow bananas ....and we get a lot less cold weather than you guys.

Isn't this all considered news ?

just asking for a friend

I hope they can get their power on soon...

If the power goes off in Toronto or some other big city, it makes the news. If the power goes off on my Island, it does not make the news. We have a lot more power off events than the big cities.
We need a song like “ Don’t cry for me Argentina “ for the places with no E power.
Let them have back up systems, as I do.

Nigel does as do I, doesn't help him request courier pick up when the cell towers, that are still standing, are on battery and are throttled to text and emergency calls only, and most old phone lines are on the ground. You can't print shipping labels or get pickups if he can't access the internet and this is the intent of this thread, nothing else.

As I noted in another post, the situation is dire for many unprepared Canucks. This is the worst ice storm since the Ottawa Valley in 1998. I'm running on the old Honda 3500, that I took my Mother that year that was out for 4 weeks, as I blew up a newer Generac 7000 on Sunday.

Geez guys, l hope the power comes back quickly for you guys.

I agree, it is a serious situation for many.
But, I was there when the power was off for one week during Christmas. I was in Kelowna for the great fire of 2003.
I chatted daily to Standard life, during the great ice storm.
They are in Montreal.
No power does tend to bugger up your day.

I recently saw on the news a story about Ham radio operators being called into duty during emergencies.

Guessing you guys up north are doing the same thing.

Stay safe guys!

I too, have a ham radio in my camper van. But I am not a capable, or active user.

I'm down one generator too! my old reliable briggs contractor model blew the brush diode after 20years [nla] and even if it was time is of the essence! running on the benchmark 5000,doesn't seem to have the output of the briggs, i only had about 3hrs. use on it last 2 years since purchased ,so it's broke in now! I've got a bigger 9000 yet to put into service if necessary but already burned up about $400 in fuel!
my sons 20kw generac been burning $100 day propane! couple more days to go it seems!
I just changed the oil in the briggs about 3 hrs before the output quit, my usual luck!
much warmer this morning already +8 so I should be able to shut some heaters down! my briggs would run the old heat pump, won't run the new one and with all the circuit boards in it thinking I should go big and invertor for the next gen set! I would never go propane as a lot of people now figured out if the trucks can't get through for delivery it's kinda useless!

and yes there was a point of passing gas cans over the tree trunks across the roads!
5 trains sitting in toronto couldn't go for trees across the tracks up here, that $1M hr. loss!
