I changed hard drives in my computer and due to a previous problem I had placed a system password on it. During the installation of Windows XP and other programs I got tired or having to enter the password so "Thought" I had eliminated it. I entered the old password and left the new password and confirm spaces blank, saved it and exited set up. Guess what.....I'm locked out and nothing I try will work. I need to know what to do to get into set up again to change things so I can load my programs, photos, favorites and other things. It was a "Duh" but I thought I was following the directions and that it would eliminate the need to enter the password.

HELP

Hey there!
If I'm reading your issue right, it sounds like you're locked out because of a password issue. Here's what you need to do.
1) Download OPHCRACK here
http://sourceforge.net/projects/oph...d/2.3.1/ophcrack-xp-livecd-2.3.1.iso/download
2) Burn it to a cd or dvd
3) boot your computer from the CD (for most computers, hold f12 right when you power it up and choose CD/DVD)
4) Let the software run it's course and it will show you the correct password you need to get into your system.

Now if you put a password on the BIOS (which you probably didn't but just in case), that one is easy, just open your computer and look for a small silver button battery, take it out and wait a day, the password will be gone. Let me know how things go! I run a computer repair business in CA so I see stuff like this all the time.

I emailed a friend of mine, Hopefully by AM ill have some type of answer for you. Ron

In the mean time try to boot in safe mode and see if you can delete all your start up windows pass words ya put in, then IF you can do it should fix the problem. If you don't know how, restart your computer and continually click F8 while it trys to boot up. This just may solve your problem, cant promise but give it a shot! if it boots up in safe mode go to user accounts in control panel and you'll find where you can do this, NOW, im going by my Dell so it could be different.. we've all done the "duh" stuff at one time or another with the computers. Good luck, when i hear from my buddy if you havent fixed it yet ill let you know as soon as i know. Ron

Ron, this is for the system password, not log in and you don't get far enough without it to do much of anything. The removal of the battery makes the most sense because the system password would be stored in the Bios and not on the hard drive. I removed the battery and will see what happens tomorrow. My wife wants her computer back!!!:bootyshake:

I got the email back but said same as i showed you. I copied and pasted it (yours) and he thought as i did, well if its in the bios do the same to change it except hit F2 to go into bios mode and reset it... keep clicking F2 when restarting to get to the bios i think password is first one in there. Ron.

Just seen the other post, ok, you should be ok then i hope your up and running before your wife has you running! Sounds like they thought the same thing, windows log in.. Ron

Didn't work, still locked out....
