My '64 Fury project has come to a point where I decided to replace the entire cowl so I ordered up a replacement from a very reputable yard and it arrived in perfect condition within a couple of days. The problem (maybe) is the replacement cowl arrived with the VIN plate (first four digits are W355) in place so for shits and giggles I decided to decode it and low and behold it turns out to be from a 1965 Coronet series (Fury III, Coronet, Custom 880). After a cursory glance the two cowls look the same but I do not want to start screwing around with a replacement cowl that eventually will not fit so I am hoping someone on the board KNOWS whether the '65 cowl is indeed the same as the '64.

BTW - My thread needs TONS of updating so hopefully I'll get that taken care of and bring it up to date.

Thanks much,

Bob

I can not say definitively that it will fit... But I used a lot of pieces from a 65 coronet 4 door I parted out on my 64 polara. I also saved the corner cowl sections for rust repair. They looked identical to me, but maybe they are different.... its what Im using none the less,

Look at the area where the steering column goes thru the cowl Plymouth is a little different shape also the dodges use tabs to hold the engine harness to firewall and sometimes Plymouth will use plastic clips the difference is minor and you should be able to do this 64 and 65 b bodies are the same.

(Fury III, Coronet, Custom 880).

Fury III and Custom 880 are completely different animals than the 65 Coronet. If it looks the same the decoding information is incorrect.

Hey fellas,

Thanks much for the feedback!
Since my car is not a restoration the minor differences won't bother or affect me, my biggest concern was in regards to the fitment of the actual cowl and around the door pillars.

As for the decoding, I was unsure of how/why so many models were grouped together in the "W" category but then again my name isn't Galen and my knowledge limited.

Thanks again

64/5 B, Coronet, 440, 330, Savoy, Belvedere and Satellite have the same cowl. 880 and Fury III should be way different.

Thanks Mark.
I've pretty much figured the cowl is from a Belve or something because save for the heater motor location and the hole for the steering column the overall look and shape are nearly the same, and since I'm using an aftermarket heater and column neither of these two points is overly relevant to me.
That being said, my biggest concern was the actual outer cowl, a-pillar, and door post shape, all of which appears identical.

Thanks again,
Bob
