Need Help On Excessive Crankcase Pressure

RustyRatRod, I am currently looking for another distributor to try. Looking for a used one. Any recommendations on which to use? Msd has a ready to run with vacuum advance and also a billet style with no vacuum advance. Or should I stick with another Mopar performance style.

If you're happy with how the MP distributor runs, I would stick with it.

I promised I would give feedback to this problem I was chasing for months. I decided to pull the MP distributor apart one more time and clean the oil from the inside. After assembling the distributor I decided to re shim the distributor end play to .010th. Instead of using shims that covered the five holes at the base of the distributor, I used the shims that kept the bottom distributor oil port holes open.

Even though I tried this before I did one thing different. I always had 6 quarts of oil in the engine. I had tried in the past running the engine with 5 quarts, but at that time I had already blocked the holes in the distributor base. When I thought I was doing something better, I had made it worse. The main issue is due to the large Eagle crank weights, using the 440 source 6 quart pan with a 440 source stroker windage tray and running 6 quarts of oil. This was keeping the oil to close to the crank. Under higher than normal rpms the weights were picking up the oil and throwing it up to the top of the lifter valley. This was probably flooding that area. As the distributor turned it was pulling the oil up the distributor and was not draining back due to the 5 plugged ports at the distributor base. I should have tried running it with 5 quarts from the beginning and left the distributor alone. I guess the size of the crank weights has everything to due with this issue.

I have put another 100 miles on the motor running a total of 5 quarts in the engine, and have not seen any signs of oil at the distributor base. If there is any oil working its way up the distributor it is now draining back.

I also went as far as sticking a camera in the block and finding that with this oil pan setup the oil level with 6 quarts in the engine was 1/4 inch above the oil pan baffles, this was after replacing the oil filter and running the engine for a couple of minutes. So there was probably 5 1/2 quarts in the pan and the rest was in the filter.

Now that I have figured the issue, can I run this stroker engine with a 6 quart hemi pan with 5 quarts of oil instead of 6? Is it safe or is it recommended to replace the pan to a deep pan and run it with 6 quarts?
