I'm about to pull the trigger on a 69' Roadrunner. It's a numbers matching 4-speed 383, but the down side is the seller does not have a title for the vehicle. The car is from Oklahoma and has not been registered in 28 years.

The seller wants $6,500... I'm a little hesitant, any advise is appreciated!

I've attached pictures of the car for better opinions :icon_batman:

I bought a running driving 68 RM23 #'s matching 383 727tf California Car for $6k, in 2005 {my 13th RR & probably 30th Mopar} & it needed allot of body crease/dent repair, fuel tank replaced, among other things, but little to no rust at all & all the parts, trim, glass, grill, running engine/trans, rear etc. were all there, near perfect interior 63k miles... That car in the photos, is a "basket case" at best, with no title, IMHFO I'd keep looken'... There are better cars for that money probably or just a few thousand more, you may have to travel a little, but it will be well worth the extra money to get something much more complete {from a warm dry climate} & with a title {not sure what Oklahoma is like to deal with titles or Vin searches}... All the little things parts & missing pieces, will add up quickly & you will spend more time & effort, parts searching shipping machine work etc., then the value of the finished car will be worth, to restore it... you can buy a nicer one for $10k & fully restored for $25k or less sometimes depending on quality & rarity... Research the costs & do your due diligence... good luck what ever you decide to do

As the "other's" before me imply...HOLD-OFF.
Do not be so anxious to "pull the trigger"

IMHO? Offer him $2k for the car and not a dollar more.
You may get it for $2K.

(the car is in rough shape BUT, by saving $K, a lot can be done.
Be sure there is not a lot of "rot"...if so, walk away.
As far as the title?
I'm sure you can get on through your local DMV.

*Note: seller has to write on a DMV form that he does not have title for DMV to generate a new one. (Same as Calif)

This...........

Run Forrest, Run!!!!!

.......and this........for $6500 and NO TITLE, I'd keep lookin!!!!

Ugggg. No way...

I agree with what others here have said.

The other element to consider when buying a car is how complete it is. Everyone thinks about all the major pieces like engine, transmission, etc., but all the little trim pieces WILL KILL YOU. They add up to big $$$ fast, some are very hard to find, and others are very expensive.

BUY THE MOST COMPLETE CAR YOU CAN AFFORD!

Only if you deep pockets and are looking forward to endless hours of work.

Car with no title = no sale. My experience with getting a title in the past has been a big pain in the butt. I would keep looking for one in better shape. That roadrunner looks like it would need a lot of things that add up fast.

Gosh dang man $6500? Don't do anything without asking someone else first, and the answer to this car is go gamble all your money away on the gambling boat and you will still come out ahead of that car deal!!!

Way overpriced. Maybe $3500-$4000 tops. And that's if the the floors and cowl area aren't completely rotted out. Too much stuff missing.

I would offer him $1500, and help loading it.

Think I would do as the others and keep looking.

All the stuff in the trunk looks like it will need to be replaced=$$$$$$$$$$
The open engine block would probably need to be replaced=$$$$$$$$$$$
There looks to be tooo much work to do for the money the seller wants for it. Heck, that car that's parked in front of it looks to be in better shape. If you really want it, offer him $1800. If he takes the offer and then later on you feel that you got in way over your head, at least you can sell it easier and get your money back out of it or make it up in selling the parts.

It's not as easy to get a new title in Texas anymore....at least not like it used to be. I found out a few years ago just how easy it isn't. Btw, I'm in Pasadena too. Now if it's just a lost title and the seller was the owner, then it's a different story but if he doesn't know who the owner was, forget it. You can however do a title search but you can't go through a cop buddy anymore to do that either. You will have to talk to the Texas DMV to find out just what you need to do and that's entails talking with the office on the north west side of Houston. You can also talk to a company that deals with lost titles but that's going to cost some money....and the price is way too high for that car.....especially without papers.

I think you should tell the guy that if he pays YOU $1000, then you'll help remove the car from his lot so he can put another car in it's place to sell . . . and help you load it too !

Run Forrest, Run!!!!!

RC/DH . . . you have such a knack for summing it up so NICELY ! ! ! ( LMAO )

Correction, it 'used to be' numbers matching. That open block is a boat anchor, granted, a numbers matching boat anchor.
