...in the 1/8 of course.

I drove my car out to Barona yesterday and got a new best, a 7.96 at 85.73 and also a new best 60 foot, a 1.71.

I increased the timing a little bit since my last outing and of course the weather was nice (high 60s) so that helped.

I found that my 60 foot dropped to a 1.75 if I did too long a burnout. I also found that it would ET better if I remembered to short shift it and keep the revs below 5500 or so.

Of course I want to go faster and faster with what I have so I'm at a crossroads as to what to do next. Lighten the car? Battery in the trunk? Port the 452s? Aluminum heads? Steeper gear? Of course learning to tune the carb and learning to drive it better will help too. I'm on a pretty strict budget right now so I'd be pretty happy to drop another tenth in the 1/8 for right now. If I could drive it to the track, consistently go 7.80s to 7.90s in the 1/8 and make it home in one piece I think that would satisfy me for a bit.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I got to time trial against a new SRT8 392 Hemi Challenger. He ran a 9.12 at 83 mph.

:icon_thumright:!!

Anytime you make it to the track and make a few laps without hurtin' anything is a great day.To pick up a new best is whipped cream on top:headbang:

Congrats! I have to make a trip down to Barona and make a few passes. I usually go to Irwindale since its pretty close to me. Drag Racing is an addiction. Just one more tenth, lol.

hell yea it is!!

Congrats 67Satty on the new personal record pass, good pass, having fun is what it's all about... Move the battery to the pass/side trunk rear & lighten up the car, where ever you can, maybe some fiberglass & aluminum replacing Heavy Steel & Cast Iron before spending any more money on the motor/engine combo, would be a great start, air pressure & carb/ignition tuning, maybe even converter or valve-body, lighten up the wheels & tires, drive-shaft, any type of reciprocating weight, etc., will also reap some rewards when you find the sweet spot for your specific engine/car/combo... It's all about the power to weight ratio, lighter is always better, probably the easiest or sometimes cheapest way, to go faster too... Suspension springs shocks & Traction aids or upgrades would be next thing to do, before engine also, get the car working to optimize the performance the engine can put-out, it doesn't do you any good to just make more power & spin farther down the track...

Mopar Performance book Chassis 9th edition #P5007160 is a good reference book, for the basic chassis/engine combos & where you can go with what you have & not spend a fortune on non-esential items...

HPBooks Torqueflite A-727 Transmission Handbook by Carl Monroe HPBooks-1399, is also a great book to have around...

Mopar Performance book Engines 9th edition #P5249704 is also a good reference book to have around too, it's kind of old now, but basic good ideas don't go out of style...

you can't ever have too much knowledge... Like my signiture says "FILL YOUR LIBRARY, BEFORE YOU FILL YOUR GARAGE"

Yep, I've filled my library with all those books already. :read2:

I like the idea of going faster without tearing into something that is running pretty good for what it is, as in if it's not broke don't fix it or tear into it and open up another can of worms. So I guess lightening is next. Still thinking about putting some 4.30s in it since I'm shifting into third right before the stripe.

Probably a good idea too, it will help to move a heavy car quicker/easier...

thats great to hear you like them books too...LOL...

Maybe even a taller wider tire with a bigger footprint, could/would also help some too, especially with the 4.30:1 gears....

Thats great to hear. Congrats on the new best. Ron

Thanks Ron! Not really sure what to do next. I'm worried that changing from 3.91s to 4.30s might not do that much and then I'd be out some $$$ that would've better been spent elsewhere. What to do, what to do...The hot rodder's dilema.

Buy a chunk ready to drop in w 4:30's already in it. they're floating around on moparts, racing junk, etc. race em a couple of weeks and if you like em, sell your 3.91's. price em right and you'll come out about even, might even make a few $$ because the 3.91's are a more popular gear.
