If you read my intro, you will know I am a newby to the Mopar scene

I am tossing around the idea of building a fairly stout 451, For the street and some trips down the 1320, I already picked up a 400 block, My buddy has a steel crank from a 440 that spun a bearing but, it will be fine to turn the journals and the counter weights down on , Now whats a good con rod to run in these?, I don't mind spending some loot on the rods and pistons, I am not scared of RPM's either , I am used to high revving small blocks, so the big block is a new avenue to me, Any suggestions on a good rod and forged piston combo?. I would like to keep the motor around 10. or 10 1/2 -1 on the comp, Not really sure what heads are a decent street head.. just kind of looking for guidance in those area's, The 451 seems to have the best of both worlds the grunt of a big block and the RPM capabilities of a small block .. The 383 i have now is a decent piece but I don't want to hurt it because its a numbers matching motor..

When I build the motor I want i to look all stock on the outside but the internals are a different story , I have a low rise Edelbrock dual quad intake I am gonna run on it but paint it so it looks cast..

Check out Mancini Racing http://chuckers54.stores.yahoo.net/ & their stroker kits, rods & pistons combos etc.
Eagle H-Beam rods a decent part for the price, Carrillos or Crowers are always good...
Pistons KB, Diamond, Mahle, JE, Wiseco, Ross, Arias, Venolia, BME, Icon
also check out http://store.440source.com/ I used some Platinum {made in the USA} series rods had no issues, nice rod for the money

some are better than others, kind of personal preferences

good luck there's alwyas google search too

Good luck with your build. There are a ton of builds you can do as so much depends on just what you like. Myself I wanted a nice pump gas drive anywhere 10 second street car that I drive to the track and race just as I drive it through the pipes on pump with my 3700 lb 63 Sport Fury. I built a 440/493 as I wanted something with the torque to push my 3700 lbs to 10's without alot of rpm's as I drive this car a ton and did not want to be hard on the eng to much. If you click the link in my sig it will take you to a page about my 63 as the last build I did (the 493) is at the bottom of the page. You just have to sit back and go over all you want and then all the availible parts out there and what you like and want to use. If you build your own engines like me then thats about what I did and once I was sure who's and what parts I wanted to use I got to work. Good luck and if I can help in anyway dont hesitite to let me know. Ron

WE are building a 67 Convertible GTX now with a 512 Stroked 440 with aluminum heads. Car will remain it's stock apperance so no one will ever know what is going on. Still has 2.94 gears in it and they will stay. Our kit for this car came from 440 source along with the stealth heads they sale. Hughes custom ground us a Hydraulic amshaft for it so it will barley have a hit to it and we can still run a 318H converter in it. They cam range is 1400-5000.

I have never had any problems with 440 source parts. I have bought some stuff from Mancini in the past but will never again as they will rip you a new one on shipping..

Give 440 source a look as they have some nice kits for the 400 and 383 also.

Furyous: That's interesting about the shipping from Mancini. I live pretty far from them and have ordered a ton of parts over the years. I've experienced nothing but great service and reasonable shipping costs. Is it possible they made a mistake on your order? Did you contact them, and, if so, what was the response? Just curious as your experience seems to be totally opposite from mine...

Same here as I use Mancini all the time and have never had bad service and I will use them again next time I need parts. Ron

Can't go wrong with edelbrocks for this build, I'd look foe used. The intake will slow you down a touch. Easy mid 11 properly specked. We run a 440 .557 solid, 906 heads, same intake, headers, 4.30, 65 Belvedere 11.5- 11.6 @114- 115

My old 440 combo was almost the same as this as it was a 906 headed .557 cammed 440 also in my 63 with 4.30's and 30 x 9 tires that ran just like this one DVW posted. Mine ran a best ever of 11.49 @ 116 on a real good day. Ron

That's good to know, I am really considering using them, They are half the price of the competitors, I just didn't want to use them if they aren't up to par with the Pro Gram caps and such

These are the 440Source steel main caps and of course I had the main caps lined bored. They have been in my eng since June 2011 when I put it in the car and they are holding up fine. And I do drive the car alot and race it some. Ron

Sounds very promising, I am ordering a set of 440source caps and the block is going in to be bored, line bored, decked (squared up) I was a fairly stout street motor, gonna keep it around the 10-1 comp mark, roller cam . I am really looking at a set of Indy heads
