No ammo to be had?

OK. Just called Big 5 on Budnick's recc, they've been outta 9mm for a month. I honestly can't believe that manufacturers cannot keep up with demand, considering how many guns are owned in this country. I'm glad that I really only have need for ammo to practice with, and maybe 50 rounds just in case at home. If I needed ammo for work, or I lived in a place where carrying is essential, I'd be screwed. Thanks to all the people who panic buy ammo- you caused the prices to skyrocket and to keep fellow Americans from being protected.

I think I'll just wait a few months for the market to calm down, maybe prices will fall a bit and I can get ammo without the desperation factor. Thanks for the tips and input, guys. And no, I'm not getting pulled back into the political forum. I have better things to do, like drive my Charger!

Could it be the current ammo shortage is because the US gov't. has ordered such vast quantities?

Ever watch some of the video's from Afghanistan where the military blast hundreds of rounds .223 ammo into nothing hoping to hit something ? More government waste.

And no trouble finding 45APC for my Sig.

$19.19 for a box of 50 rounds of .40 S&W FMJ sounds pretty good if the stuff is any good. Armscor from Cheaper than Dirt.net and they say it's USA made....I wonder if they have it in stock.

Cranky That is freaken Dirt-Cheap, especially for FMJ .40 cal. S&W, made in the USA...

Another factor that needs to be considered is how the market has operated over the past few decades. It used to be that most ammunition was made and sold by several major US manufacturers, namely Remington and Winchester. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, we saw the fall of the Soviet Union and an end to the Cold War, and trillions of rounds of surplus ammo flooded the market from overseas. We used to be able to buy a thousand rounds of .223, 7.62x54 (.308), and 9MM for under $100 bucks back then. We also saw the governments of former Soviet Block countries turn their ammunition production facilities away from military manufacture and towards manufacture for overseas exports for civilian use. The Russian Wolf brand has been one of the leading sellers of ammunition in the US for over a decade now. Between the increase in surplus ammo, and the rise of the former Soviet Block production, US manufacturers have been decreasing production due to decreased demand.

Now we have most of that peace-dividend surplus ammo running out, and US commercial production has yet to step up to take it's place, so when fears of bans drive demand up, there's no ready source of ammo to fill the gap.

I'm sure they are out of stock tho. I'll call in a bit. Went to a local range a couple of weeks ago and they had 2 boxes of .40's for 27 bucks each.....should have bought both instead of just one. I rarely target practice anymore (don't need to :D) but my wife and I spend 100 rounds every time we go to renew our CHL's. Hers is a 40 and mine is a 45 but she quit carrying so I carry it now since it's easier to conceal and she keeps a .380 with her.

Btw 99ss, I'm not paranoid and I'm not a member of the NRA either but I will always be ready to defend myself, my wife or anyone else for that matter. In my whole life, I've had 3 incidents where I stopped someone from doing something really stoooopid. One time was in the military (I was a military cop in the AF) and the other 2 were in my civilian life. So far, no one has been shot but one came really close. And no, I'm not a gun nut nor am I an over zealous trigger happy freak that's ready to kill something. Shoot someone and see what happens to ya even if you can prove it was self defense. You'll be lucky to get things cleared up without spending 15k or more then you'll probably have to go fight the family when they file a lawsuit. You have to keep your head on square about this sort of stuff. Hope yours is....

Those guys over in Afghanistan are welcome to cook off as many rounds as they like, in my opinion. If I was over there, I'd be shooting at anything that moved. I certainly am not going to blame THEM for me not being able to shoot targets.

As far as Armscor Ammo, I'd be very surprised if it was USA made, since Armscor is based in the Philippines.

Right on Cranky! People on the left are always painting law abiding gun owners as 'paranoid gun nuts'. I own several firearms that I enjoy shooting regularly. I have never shot at anyone, and God willing I hope I never have to. If you don't want a gun, don't buy one- but leave my rights alone! That being said, good luck finding reasonbly priced ammo!

I'm a law abiding gun owner, and I guess I would say I'm "on the left". I do not paint other owners as paranoid gun nuts. Since I started this, and asked people not to make it political, I would ask that you stop stereotyping on this thread, thank you very much.

But you made it political in your original post hawghead.

It Will Get Ugly....

I think you mean ACP which stands for Automatic Colt Pistol. I never have a problem buying in bulk for my needs. 5.56 x 45/.223, .308/7.62 x 51, 45ACP/45 PDX, 45 Long Colt, 410 PDX ammo, 12 Gauge PDX ammo as well as the other 12 Gauge types of uses. Just gotta have the connection I guess. I also re-load which saves a bundle. You can never have enough period. Sorry PABSTER but a measly 50 rounds as a back up really won't be very effective in the long run either. But I understand your point 100% as a recent gun owner and a family man with kids too. In this day and age, and this is my opinion based on reliable information and intel, one should have at least 2000 plus rounds for each weapon that they own along with at least 2 years supply of powder, lead, primers, and brass. In addition, one needs to have at least 2 years supply of food in storage along with as much physical Gold and Silver Bullion. Not the paper stuff that most Wall Street spin doctors suggest. The physical stuff. It has also been suggested that the recent shortage is due to the Government buying up tremendous amounts of ammo because they fear that the eminent collapse of the US Gov't and Economy will necessitate mass upheaval and rioting and therefore need it to maintain proficiency and their edge. So it really is quite simple here....The more one can acquire and physically have, then the better to counter act the Gov't. So keep investing in lead as I am doing. And when you can get it, go for the "Ball" type ammo for target practice and scenario shooting as it is far less expensive than Hollow Point, Expandable Ammo, and PDX/Personal Defence. I have been doing it now for over 8 years so I guess I am prepared. Good luck though to the rest that haven't seen this inevitable collapse coming...That is just my humble opinion only...Carry On....

Last week i bought 9mm from luckygunner.com and 45`s from Midwayusa. Both were in stock.

I've got a few thousand 9mm but i'm not sharing. Oh ya btw, I'm not paranoid... I'm prepared :) And i do support the NRA!!!

Sorry to offend you- but tell me which party is trying to disarm the American people??

Why do we law abiding gun owners feel the need to defend our stance on this issue? Its in the constitution.Done deal.I dont waste ammo. I already know how to shoot. Unless theres a war i,m probably good for life. Safe is stocked.Wish I could help but havent bought any in a couple years.

 Any details you care to share???

They also have a subsidiary in Nevada called Armscor Precision International....
