Got the rear crossmember cut down and fitted in the new frame rear section. Next will be drilling all the spotwelds out of the rear floor that was cut out and then fit the frame into its spot.
This is a cool project. Far better in my opinion, which I'm sure is going to get the purists and numbers matching crowd bent, than another numbers matching clone. Nothing as boring as seeing clone after clone at a show.
Got the rear section of frame in. Have not tied in to the rear crossmember as all the sheet metal is on indefinite back order. Front frame rails are tacked in. Working on the front crossmember at this time.
BMW had to go with AWD in their M5 cars recently because many of the twin turbo V8's were getting tunes and blowing a lot of rear differentials under warranty.
I do plan on trying some autocross with it. It will be a bit long for most of the courses but still fun. Maybe take it to the spring fling track day if it works out.
From all the reading I have done, the transfer case is the weak point. There is a company that builds them up. Depending on how much I modify the engine before I put it all together will determine if I send in the TC. At this time I don’t have too much planned for hop ups.
That makes me think of a SEMA trip from a few years ago. In either Weddle or Albins booth, they had sequential 6 speed trans mated up to a 2nd gen Hemi with a dry sump pan and the front diff. The oil pan and diff unit were a one off unit plus the trans. The pan/diff were $100k. Sure was neat looking.
