Not the official weather thread.....

FINALLY!!! Some serious rain here!! Dayam, was about to give up. Not much rain here in the last two months and looks like I'm about to lose a couple of fairly young trees even though I'm been watering them. Guess it wasn't enough. One looks like it'll recover but one looks pretty bad.

I think summer may be over here. I have some windows open at night and I noticed the thermostat is not climbing above 66 even during the warmest part of the day. Lows are in the 40s highs highs in the high 60s for the next week. Fall is coming fellas. Just a bit earlier here.

I've been growing an oak tree in a pot. A "helicopter" happened to fall into an empty, dirt-filled pot and it started growing...Somebody (my girlfriend lol) said it couldn't be done. Four years later, he's strong and healthy. :p

You know I like it cold because I'm Norwegian.

Ikke dårlig vær, bare dårlig klær?

No such thing as bad weather. Only bad clothing.

Have 3 live oaks in pots right now and the majority of the trees on my place were grown from seedlings. Looks like I'll have a place for at least one of the live oaks....will see in the spring. Also have another one growing pretty close to the water oak that looks like it may not come back. I have one water oak that I bought from a nursery and it's 1/2 the size of the one I planted from a seedling. Thinking the nursery put dormant spray on it as it stayed the same size for many years. Only bought one other tree from a nursery and that was a ball cypress and that thing grew like a weed! Hurricane Ike took out the top so I cut it down.....too close to the house anyways and it was putting up knees all over the place.

84* clear, mild 5mph winds, sunny skies
warm but not too warm...

no lightning, no thunder "yet"

We had a bad week earlier
with power outages & internet & phone all down 24hrs
then again for 2-3 hrs the next day
& another shorter outage to replace one of the damaged weaken
local transformer
"Allegedly" freaken' PG&E a--holes

700-1,000 lightning strikes, almost our whole county Tuolumne
& an adjoining Calavarus county (thank god no fires from it)
we had rain that hung out too, the downpour of like an 1" in an hr
twice over about 5 hrs, flash flood for stream warnings
Sullivan Creek down the hill/road a bit, 200yards or so
& about 100ft in elevation below me
down my road, usually just a trickle of water 6"-1'
was like at 12 ft flowing like crazy,
15' is the flood level over the banks (even then doesn't do much up here)

Also the property behind me,
had a river literally flowing down her gravel road/driveway
filled a lil' winter pond that takes like 2-3 weeks to fill normally
in a matter of like 2 hrs...
(I'm on higher ground no problems here)
But;
I was out of power, storms & lightning strikes took out cell towers
& a couple of transformers blew up
everyone running of dependable fossil fuel generators :poke:
$30-$50 a day for some I talked to, mine is like 3 gals every 12-15 hrs...

23,000 out of power for 24 + hrs the 1st time (over the 2 counties)
We had a crazy thunderstorm that stalled literally right over my place
for like 5+ hrs straight, it looked like an eye to a hurricane,
teardrop shaped going really slow, we could see clear skies to the west & south
with serious loud cracking of lightning, rolling thunder rattling the house
over & over & over again
freaked my dog Elvis out, barked like crazy (sort of entertaining too)
or it looked like some outer-space crap (no ****), looked strange,
I'd never seen it before...

I should have taken a photo...

according to the weather prognosticators
this coming fall & winter are supposed to be another
really wet & cold/snowy fall/winter into the spring again
( :icon_fU: drought 'my lily white *** we are', more eco-Nazi lies/hype)
out here/west NorCal Sierras anyway
El-Ninio off the Pacific is coming, warm water coming north :blah:

I'm not a 'weather prognosticator' but I play one on a Car Forum
never stayed in a Holiday Inn thou...

We've been having post card / chamber of commerce style days- low 90's and relatively low humidity.....

.....punctuated with pop-up and fast moving torrential downpours that only last about 1-2 hours but can have "severe winds" of 70 MPH.

Frequent radio EMS severe wind advisories on my drive home in the afternoon.

WTF?

I believe that would be a maple. Oaks come from an acorn.

Was wondering about what 'helicoptered in' meant but now I know lol. Seldom see a maple tree around here....
